Interview with Egwin Wilterdink at Sunday 20th of October 2019 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? EW: As a child i loved drawing, and at he age of sixteen i wanted to be a designer. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? EW: I am a freelancer, so i work one my one. FS: What is "design" for you? EW: design is thinking about a solution, make the message clearer FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? EW: illustration i like the most. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? EW: Many artist. I think overall the photgrapher David LaChapelle FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? EW: a brochure FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? EW: my favorite is the actions in photoshop. FS: When do you feel the most creative? EW: When i complete can doing my own thing, without to stay within frameworks FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? EW: first look at what options there are, instead of direct starting at a project FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? EW: happy FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? EW: doubting, a project is almost never finished. I see improvements again the next day FS: What makes a design successful? EW: innovative, thought about FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? EW: .. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? EW: the designer certainly has responsibilities. For example, I sometimes print on water-based printing inks FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? EW: I think that in some areas there is less demand for designers, because there are more and more tools on the internet that can help the consumer / company FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? EW: Never had an exhibition FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? EW: Sometimes I think of the whole thing myself, other times I sometimes look for something in various sources. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? EW: I think my style is very diverse. One time I can make a very loose design, other times it must be a tight advertisement that must be designed within a corporate identity. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? EW: I liove in the Netherlands. yes i will affacts my design. I see never designs in magazins on tv from (example) india, Austria, Afrika. FS: How do you work with companies? EW: if I can't get anywhere, I often call an external company to see if we can work it out together FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? EW: Search for work that designers have made, if that appeals, you are already one step further. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? EW: That depends on what I'm starting. As an example: Brand, I am starting to draw on paper, show it to the customer. When a choice is made, I will elaborate this in Illustrator FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? EW: My books about design, lamp, my bike, car and my garden FS: Can you describe a day in your life? EW: Very diverse, view mail, process orders, call from a customer, urgently needs something. Get started and then coffee. See if I can improve processes and gather information on the internet. FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? EW: Don't start off right away. first think, what is the budget?, which way can I go, and what is achievable. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? EW: Positive: making fun things, sometimes giving your own twist. Negative: Sometimes you have to keep in the grid with customers. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? EW: come up with something new FS: What skills are most important for a designer? EW: Looking at other designers, feeling with typograpy/color. FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? EW: pencil, indesign, photoshop, illustrator, SQL, internet, acrobat poroffesional. FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? EW: Check in advance if it can be achieved within a certain time. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? EW: Different, a website 20 ours, brand 8 ours. FS: What was your most important job experience? EW: Art director FS: Who are some of your clients? EW: Little company's, Brewery, IT FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? EW: Illustrion, many whays to make an illustrion FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? EW: Still being a designer. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? EW: I develop mostly the design by myself. FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about? EW: no FS: How can people contact you?
