Interview with Oron Milshtein at Tuesday 30th of April 2019 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? OM: Since I was a child I always love art, I started to paint when I was 5 years old, since then I know that I will be a designer FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? OM: It’s a boutique studio, we do interior design and architecture, we create a special projects in Israel and abroad FS: What is "design" for you? OM: Way of life FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? OM: Commercial space and luxury apartments FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? OM: Modern design , I get a lot of inspiration from the bauhaus movement FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? OM: The first project that I design when I finish my degree was flagship for men’s clothing company that call “sketch” the store is located in Tel-Aviv FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? OM: Stainless steal FS: When do you feel the most creative? OM: At night before I get to sleep FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? OM: Practicality FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? OM: thrill FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? OM: Proud FS: What makes a design successful? OM: Coloration between practicality and good statement FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? OM: Space perception, connection to the concept and the way they used the materials in the project FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? OM: To make a better environment FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? OM: Technology FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? OM: The last exhibition was in Tel Aviv , I hope the next exhibition will be in London or maybe Asia FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? OM: Fashion, magazine and street art FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? OM: Modern / eclectic/ innovative FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? OM: I leave near to Tel Aviv, the industry of design in my country are growing fast , we work a lot of hours and create faster ,in my culture it’s always feel that you don’t have enough time :) FS: How do you work with companies? OM: Concept > design> branding etc... I believe in total design FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? OM: Chemistry and common language FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? OM: It’s depends with the client FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? OM: My favorite items are : Dior Homme tray ,gold master chairs by Kartell, black tables by glas Italia , artemide floor lamp , church side table Cassina by jaimie hayon FS: Can you describe a day in your life? OM: We don’t have enough time :) FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? OM: Believe in yourself and don’t give up even if it hard FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? OM: Positive: create new things. Negative: hate when people doing “copy paste “ FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? OM: Do not copy! , even if the client asked for it FS: What skills are most important for a designer? OM: Patience , productivity, space perception, creativity FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? OM: Every project start in a different way , sometimes it’s 3D , one time it’s can be college it’s depends on the project FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? OM: I always design when I have an inspiration mood , if I don’t feel it , I leave the computer and come back later , I’m not forcing on the design FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? OM: It’s complicated, can be 10 min or 2 months FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? OM: How do I know to combine between colors and texture, and can imagine the combination FS: What was your most important job experience? OM: To work with apple Israel , i designed store that call istore (collaboration with apple) FS: Who are some of your clients? OM: Apple Israel, care cosmetics, sketch , gold elements and more FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? OM: When people believe in you and give you free hand to create FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? OM: Design hotels FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? OM: By myself FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
