Interview with Dongguan GAFA C&C Institute at Wednesday 1st of May 2019 FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? DGCI: My favorite design is the interesting one with soul. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? DGCI: I focused more on the cultural implications of a work. Because I really like things contained with culture. I also like to explore the possibilities of combining culture with creation, and try to integrate culture into the aesthetic and spiritual needs of modern people. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? DGCI: I feel very happy. FS: What makes a design successful? DGCI: see much, think much, observe much, and practice much. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? DGCI: Whether it can stimulate the interest of people around them, and trigger their thinking. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? DGCI: In my opinion, designers should insist on creating more beautiful things for the society and make life better. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? DGCI: At present, I do not insist on a design style, but each time I will choose a style according to different design background. I will not apply the same design style to all the works. I think different works should have different expressions. The way of design is inspired in life. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? DGCI: I live in Guangzhou. China has a long history and culture. All aspects, including the theme and craft, provide me with rich materials and inspiration for my design. FS: What skills are most important for a designer? DGCI: An eye for discovery and a quick mind for design FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? DGCI: Each time, I will make a time plan, and adhere to complete the task of each time node punctually. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? DGCI: The length of time will be different according to different style and requirements. FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about? DGCI: Currently, we are doing creative cultural design for museums in different regions of China.
