Interview with Bruce Tao at Thursday 29th of October 2020 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? BT: I am a master of product design with 5 years work experience. Whenever I know some product is beautiful, I will feel impulse. This impulse make me want to become a creative designer. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? BT: My design studio devote to creative good design concept to make student understand what is design. FS: What is "design" for you? BT: Design is a way to solve the problem. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? BT: I like design cat and children products. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? BT: iPad. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? BT: Furniture. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? BT: I like wood material. Because this material make me feel sense of nature. FS: When do you feel the most creative? BT: In the morning. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? BT: The new function. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? BT: I feel impulse. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? BT: I feel proud. FS: What makes a design successful? BT: Detail. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? BT: Solve the problem. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? BT: Solve the society and environment proble to make them better. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? BT: Design is a bridge which connect the technology and human. As long as technology is evolving, design field is evolving. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? BT: July this year. I want to exhibit my projects in April next year. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? BT: My room. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? BT: Technological. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? BT: I live in a big house with garden in China. FS: How do you work with companies? BT: This year I usually work romotly. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
