Interview with Andrejs Nadezdinskis at Monday 30th of April 2018 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? AN: I do not view myself as I designer, it is not my profession, I wanted to create something valuable and to leave something for next generations, I am an amateur in designing. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? AN: I do not have a design company, I created a small company to design my artwork and to buy necessary equipment for it. FS: What is "design" for you? AN: Design is symbiosis of art and technologies. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? AN: I like to create unique and harmonious works. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? AN: Favorite designs are these who are harmonious and have a purpose. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? AN: This is my first design so far. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? AN: My favorite materials are noble metals and wood. FS: When do you feel the most creative? AN: It is hard to say exact time, I feel most creative when my inspiration arrives, it could be at any time of the day. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? AN: I like to pay attention to details, to make everything perfect. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? AN: I feel satisfied and curious to see how it all works out when the artwork is finished. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? AN: This is the most satisfying feeling to see my design realized. FS: What makes a design successful? AN: Good execution and idea behind it. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? AN: I value tasteful designs which are created with meaning. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? AN: Designer must create something valuable of high quality and meaning. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? AN: It depends, there are some designs I truly do not understand, but everyone has rights to express themselves artistically. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? AN: My first and for now last exhibition was in February 2018 – it took place in gallery MUSEUM LV in Riga, Latvia. I plan to make a complete collection and hold my next one as soon as possible. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? AN: My greatest source of inspiration is nature itself and also architecture. I get my inspiration also from travelling. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? AN: My style is multilayered, but classical with much attention to details and quality. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? AN: I like in Riga, Latvia, where we have great architecture, so it is easy to feel inspired. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? AN: First comes the idea, then I have to find a technological way to make it come true, which involves research and many experiments to achieve the best quality. FS: Can you describe a day in your life? AN: I work as a technical director in company ULTRASTILS ltd. FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? AN: I suggest to never fear to find new paths and express their creativity as much as possible. FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? AN: I produced a series of specialized adaptations. Everything was made autonomously by self-bought equipment, finding new paths and new technologies. For this purpose I created a laboratory-workroom for all my experiments. FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? AN: I think everyone can find time if they really want it, especially when it comes to art, there are no time limits. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? AN: I took me one and a half year to finish my design. FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? AN: People most frequently ask me how it is possible to produce such work, its technical side. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? AN: I plan to make a full collection of my works and exhibit them. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? AN: I design myself. FS: How can people contact you? AN: I prefer communication by e-mail.
