Interview with Projekt Produkt at Friday 20th of April 2018 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? PP: 6 years ago, I was an optician. I used to work as an optician for about 10 years. So, I had a lot of chances of seeing wonderful eyewear.At that time, I was thinking of designing this sort of excellent eyewear.I wanted to have frames which are more wearable and fashionable in Korea.And then I became a designer at PROJEKT PRODUKT. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? PP: PROJEKT PRODUKT is a eyewear brand in Korea.The identity is morden and minimal.Every each collection has a fashion theme but all based on modern and minimal concept.We've got 3 core positions which are superior quality, good design, resonable price. FS: What is "design" for you? PP: It's very difficult question. I can say designing is a large part of my life.Sometimes it gives me more stress but I feel so many other things through my design. After rough times, I was able to work with good people and even now. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? PP: As I talked, we have a theme that is included in fashion category.I like designing and reflect fashion theme to the collection . FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? PP: My favorite frames are‘MC-10' because it's the frames showing our own identity and mood. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? PP: My first design is 'S-5'. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? PP: I don't have special material / platform / technology.But I try to choose material / platform / technology that express PP's identity and philosophy every collections. FS: When do you feel the most creative? PP: I come up with creative ideas when I see something good product or place.Thay make me more creative and motivated. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? PP: I focus on completeness of a design all the times. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? PP: I have many feelings when I design but, mostly happiniess. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? PP: Mostly excited! FS: What makes a design successful? PP: When we head for the same goal and have a good result. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? PP: I consider bad aspects first. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? PP: I think designers have social responsibilities so we have to suggest trustful and believable design for people. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? PP: I think it's too fast so I'm a bit worried. But, people have ablitiy to find good things so they will be able to make good designs in the future. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? PP: We exhibited at 2018 MIDO and will be attending at 2018 SILMO. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? PP: I like to search for vintage frames and it gives me a lot of good sources and ideas. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? PP: Frames which are superior-quality and good-wearable with cool design. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? PP: I live in Seoul. Since we've got a lot of cool and attractive things, I have many chances of seeing cool stuff. FS: How do you work with companies? PP: I try to enjoy my working with co-workers. FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? PP: I think a company has to provide designers with more time to experience something new and fresh. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? PP: 1. We decide a collection theme for every year.2. line-up3. Design FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? PP: Wastebasket / Scissors / Cup / Cabinet / Pajama FS: Can you describe a day in your life? PP: Work with good people FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? PP: I'm a young designer, too. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? PP: If you became a designer by your own decision, I'm sure you felt mostly happiness and exhilaration. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? PP: Comfortable FS: What skills are most important for a designer? PP: Communication FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? PP: I mostly use 'Illustrator', note and pen for design FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? PP: I normally sleep when I'm so stressed out. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? PP: It depends. It can be a few hours or more than one week. FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? PP: Source of inspiration FS: What was your most important job experience? PP: Experience working as an optician FS: Who are some of your clients? PP: People who understand our own identity and philosophy. FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? PP: I like the period we have a meeting for setting theme.Sometimes, only listening to others is cool and helpful. It can be a great breakthrough for design. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? PP: We will create more creative and cool stuff sych as video and photo for next collection. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? PP: I work as a team. FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about? PP: The designs for 2019 collection are already ready! FS: How can people contact you?
