Interview with Kang Shan at Monday 27th of May 2019 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? KS: I loved painting and design from childhood and wanted to be a designer. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? KS: Cao Yang studio is subordinate to the Institute of art and design of Zhengzhou University of Light Industry.Located in Zhengzhou, China.Cao Yang studio has led the studio members to design and communicate with the students of the industrial design department of Zhengzhou University of Light Industry for many years.Actively promoting the progress of students and the development of innovative thinking. FS: What is "design" for you? KS: I think the design should be both sensual and rational. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? KS: I like the most concise and emotional work. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? KS: Simple and generous can benefit mankind FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? KS: I like some natural materials most. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? KS: I pay more attention to the man-machine relationship. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? KS: I was very excited when I designed it. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? KS: I was happy when I was designed to be realized. FS: What makes a design successful? KS: Find out the good problems and take the work seriously FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? KS: I think the ingenious design determines the key to good or bad. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? KS: I think designers should care about people's problems and create them again. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? KS: I think the future design will have a good interaction with people. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? KS: I really want to show our design because we are really thinking about human life. He deserves to be understood. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? KS: Watch life, think about life FS: What skills are most important for a designer? KS: Expressive ability, such as hand-painted ability FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? KS: I have my own schedule FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? KS: More than a month FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? KS: How to design ingeniously and summarize problems from life is the biggest problem. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? KS: We are teamwork.
