Interview with Celeste Greenbaum at Wednesday 17th of April 2019 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? CG: Growing up, I was a painter who also loved science and math. I found industrial design as an intersectional between those two passions. I found the field of medical design because I was searching for a field in which I would design things that helped people and where I would be challenged daily. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? CG: I love to design medical devices and products that help people. FS: When do you feel the most creative? CG: I feel most creative when I am passionate about what I am working on. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? CG: I consider design research and human factors very important because I want to make sure that I am designing something that should exist and will bring something positive to the world. I also find the ideation and rapid prototyping phase to be essential in developing the best and most usable version of my design. FS: What makes a design successful? CG: A design is successful when it makes a difference. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? CG: A designer should always be meticulous in making sure that their designs will cause no harm and are as environmentally friendly as possible. As designers, we have a big impact on the products going out into the world and so we need to approach our decisions ethically and with the utmost care. FS: How can people contact you? CG: Those interested can email me at celestec@vt.edu
