Interview with Xuandong Wu at Monday 23rd of April 2018 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? XW: I am a professional designer. As the artistic director of the company, I have always been walking on the creative and creative design roads. I want to combine the commercial value and professional performance of the design into my works. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? XW: Our group covers a wide range of fields including public relations, design, real estate, digital, brand, technology, and research and development. Hisense, Haier and Tsingtao are our customers. At the same time, we also serve international partners and welcome new partners. FS: What is "design" for you? XW: Style is relatively strong, with graphical features, has a unique persistent brand design. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? XW: Poster design, brand design, font design, packaging design. Everyone will see, prefer the Japanese design style, simple and full. There are also some international poster exhibition works, those that use a very simple figure to express the theme content. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? XW: There is no favorite, every piece of design has its own unique charm. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? XW: Haha, I can't remember it. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? XW: Behance Well-deserved FS: When do you feel the most creative? XW: When in the book doodles, inspiration always comes suddenly. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? XW: Details, I believe in a good work, every detail is perfect. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? XW: Calm, it feels like time flies. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? XW: There will be some sense of accomplishment FS: What makes a design successful? XW: Originality and commerciality FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? XW: Professional and innovative, such as color, composition…… FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? XW: Designers use symbolic language to convey information, hoping to pay attention to environmental protection, politics, and civilization, and use posters and graphics to attract people's attention. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? XW: This issue is very serious. In the face of AI, we do not know the future. But our originality and innovation cannot be replaced by AI. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? XW: In April, in Shenzhen, you can usually meet the right time. The exhibition will see FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? My design method is the cultural decomposition and graphic reorganization of the project. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? XW: In China, for design, there are 5,000 years of cultural accumulation. XW: Maintain your own principles, absorb others' points, and learn more about design methods and techniques. XW: I like BEHANCE, and 360DESIGN, APD, etc.The Internet makes us easy FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? XW: This can not be generalized, some weeks, some months FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
