Interview with Nu Infinity at Tuesday 22nd of October 2019

FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
NI: I have a background education in Architecture. However, along the way, I wanted to engage with projects that runs on a faster pace due to the nature of the competitive economy in Malaysia. I am thankful that with Architecture, I can be quite overall in a range of skills and think beyond running merely a design firm.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
NI: We are a young, aspiring and upcoming interior design firm with 15 staff members. We have in the previously years honed our skills in designing residential projects and in the past one year ventured into commercial projects to explore further and bigger ideas.

FS: What is "design" for you?
NI: Design improves life, increase efficiency and encourages appreciations for aesthetics.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
NI: Luxury interiors for private clients and property developers.

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
NI: Simple but with depth. Don't have to spend a bomb or think excessively. Keep it simple and practical.

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
NI: A container home.

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
NI: All types of natural materials that are sustainably harvested and used efficiently to last a long time.

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
NI: Early morning and when all members of a team actively pursue the same goals and objectives.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
NI: Conceptualizing

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
NI: Inspired and Adrenaline rush

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
NI: Lifted

FS: What makes a design successful?
NI: Suited and thoughtful

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
NI: Good, because there are always good points to begin with.

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
NI: To take all aspects into consideration into the design - for the client, the environment, society and future.

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
NI: Better and people are more conscious about the importance of design.

FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
NI: Books, magazine and travels.

FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
NI: Young and Bold

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
NI: Kuala Lumpur. It is not exactly a design city. Hence we have to be smart in finding inspirations. However, it is a good place to explore and introduce design ideas as it is still growing.

FS: How do you work with companies?
NI: Professionally and develop a long term working relationship.

FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
NI: Research into a designer's track record and contribution to the society.

FS: Can you talk a little about your design process?
NI: We value all individuals' contributions within the company. The end products come out great if it is a joint effort. We spent hundred of hours envisioning a space and through trials and errors, only would the best outcomes appear.

FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
NI: Kitchen, Bath, Dining, Study, Play Room

FS: Can you describe a day in your life?
NI: Every day is different. It poses different challenges and lay stepping stones for each of us to progress through the days, weeks, months and years. Hence, progression never ceases.

FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
NI: Be bold, trust your instinct, be courteous and be humane to design, brief, collateral and others.

FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
NI: It is a lengthy, lifelong career. You have to find the "thing" that keeps you going. In return, you learn all other aspects that are required to be a good designer.

FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
NI: Design for others

FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
NI: Critical thinking, humane, courteous.

FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
NI: AUTOCAD, 3D Studio Max, V Ray

FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
NI: Efficiency. Be discipline. Plan ahead.

FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
NI: Could be within minutes if you are inspired.

FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
NI: Do you earn enough ?

FS: What was your most important job experience?
NI: Meeting good and like-minded people.

FS: Who are some of your clients?
NI: Property Developers, Entrepreneurs, Ordinary every day people.

FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
NI: Research. Realizing the design through contruction.

FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
NI: We aim to provide consultancy services throughout the South East Asia region.

FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
NI: Team, however every individual should contribute their individual inputs first.

FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
NI: We are currently working on a range of common spaces meant to serve a wider community within a mixed-development project.

FS: How can people contact you?
NI: Through our website and email. We respond within 24 hours.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
NI: We have big dreams and we are building a company that values individual strengths to realize our visions through grounded foundations and make ourselves timeless and border-less.
