Interview with Kinga German at Friday 20th of May 2016 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? KG: I am art historian, not a designer or an artist. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? KG: I do not have a company, i am working at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design as associate professor. FS: What is "design" for you? KG: Design is desire, art of innovation, is problem solving. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? KG: I like to work on the intersection of art and design. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? KG: Francis Kéré: Gando Primary School is my favorite. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? KG: Workshops, lectures. FS: When do you feel the most creative? KG: When I am working with students. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? KG: desire FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? KG: Satisfaction FS: What makes a design successful? KG: The people, the user. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? KG: social aspects FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? KG: a lot (for example: Papanek, Kéré) FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? KG: For example Designcommunication (by Attila Cosovan) FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? KG: 2015 in Venice, Art Biennal. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? KG: from the real life. My sources are contemporary music and literature too. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? KG: I am living in Budapest. Budapest is a great place with so many "faces"! FS: How do you work with companies? KG: They were sponsors of our ideas. FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? KG: Nosiboo; DSI Salt Inhaler / Co&Co); CROMA bench system; Migration House/Hello Wood; The Noise of Licking/Nadja Andrasev FS: Can you describe a day in your life? KG: Yes, but not here.:) FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? KG: + is to be envolved - is to think, that your products are based on needs FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? KG: love FS: What skills are most important for a designer? KG: sincerity FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? KG: Very well FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? KG: The question is too universal FS: What was your most important job experience? KG: The Biennale of Venice FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
