Interview with dipl. Ing Zuzana Mantel at Thursday 11th of July 2024 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? DIZM: I've been drawing for as long as I can remember. I graduated from a secondary technical school of construction engineering and after that I studied at a technical university - industrial design. Study all your life. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? DIZM: I specialize in making mosaics, oil painting and visual communication in new media. FS: What is "design" for you? DIZM: Design is part of life, need for aesthetic property in our life. "We are created to enjoy beauty, The beauty we create for life." FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? DIZM: I like to design things what improve not only technical property but also aesthetic appear. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? DIZM: Right now my last one "Little Star" - glass mosaics light object, what I signet-up for A'design Award&Competition. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? DIZM: Corporate identity logo and graphic design of product. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? DIZM: Oil paint, Stone, Glass FS: When do you feel the most creative? DIZM: When I receive a challenge. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? DIZM: aesthetic, technical skill and pragmatism FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? DIZM: Happy and satisfied. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? DIZM: thrill, happy and satisfied. FS: What makes a design successful? DIZM: Need to have feedback from community. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? DIZM: aesthetic, technical skill and pragmatism FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? DIZM: To create a meaningful thing FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? DIZM: I think there is diversity in between unification and individuality. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? DIZM: Last exhibition was 2015 at Paris, France - Carrrousel du Louvre Salon Art Shopping 17th edition, next exhibition is In april 2016 at ArtExpo 2016 New York, NYC, USA FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? DIZM: paint light and color, emotion and vibration. I use color as form to create space. I'm interested in philosophy, numerology, symbolism, life-philosophy, religion and culture. My creation is directed by natural and humans forms. I create with love. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? DIZM: Definition of my expression is metaphorically symbolic. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? DIZM: I live in Prague, Czech Republic and I m surrounded by cultural heritage. FS: How do you work with companies? DIZM: Cooperation FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? DIZM: Cooperation and placability. Companies can select a good designer by needs what they expect from design. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? DIZM: setting, analysis, creation, realization FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? DIZM: Interior design, furniture, garments, jewelry, car FS: Can you describe a day in your life? DIZM: I wake up, study new ideas, technology I look for inspiration. Make a basic day agenda. Continue create on running projects. FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? DIZM: We are created to enjoy beauty, The beauty we create for life. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? DIZM: Positive thing - we can see to the future, negative thing is that society sometime don't see and think about future. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? DIZM: Simplicity FS: What skills are most important for a designer? DIZM: Passion for creation FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? DIZM: pencil, notebook, computer, programs from Adobe, internet, cutters, brush, colors, electric tools, material, glue, tool box, library FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? DIZM: It is individual, when project is with customer specifications and with a time limit, I finish by the rules. When I create for myself I set to myself some a time plan a goals what I want achieve. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? DIZM: Sometimes days sometimes years... FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? DIZM: Where I find inspiration... FS: What was your most important job experience? DIZM: Self employ. FS: Who are some of your clients? DIZM: companies, friends, private clients FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? DIZM: I enjoy to create decorative and applicable design items for interior. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? DIZM: I want to build my own design brand. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? DIZM: Now I work by myself and I m open for cooperation. FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about? DIZM: I have another item in working progress and I m developing cooperation with a Lightning company.
