Pei Hau Huang
FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
PHH: I have always wanted to be a designer. I started from civil engineering in college and then studied design. To increase convenience and comfort yet keep environment-friendly, that is what motivates me.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
PHH: We focus on the people since they’re the users. The concept of our studio is less is more.

FS: What is "design" for you?
PHH: Design is life.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
PHH: Basically I like to design lots of things but the simplest the best.

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
PHH: As long as the design is thoroughly thought over, I appreciate design which has a great idea.

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
PHH: Let me talk about my company. The first thing I came up for the company was it’s name. Jia Jia in Chinese means “good”, the aim is to only present good design.

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
PHH: I like everything natural, especially wood. I’m also attracted to metal.

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
PHH: When clients tell me their expectations, my brain can’t stop working.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
PHH: I would say green and eco-friendly.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
PHH: Excitement!

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
PHH: I can’t wait to see people to use after my design is done.

FS: What makes a design successful?
PHH: Passion and persistence.

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
PHH: The functionality.

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
PHH: Reduce the negative impact to the earth and mankind.

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
PHH: In fact I believe the design field has no boundaries. In the future everything will be desgned.

FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
PHH: My last exhibition was on 2016 in Taiwan. Hope my next exhibition to be held as soon as possible.

FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
PHH: My inspiration comes from life and the passion to make everything becoming better.

FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
PHH: Simplicity. Life is not easy and often complicate. The core of design should make people less stressful.

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
PHH: I live in Taiwan. Surely my design is more or less influenced by the culture. The biggest challenge to be a designer here is that many people doesn’t know much about design and think it’s free.

FS: How do you work with companies?
PHH: I work closely with my clients and always deliver the best outcome instead of just finish the task.

FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
PHH: Companies should choose the designer with strong passion. Both parties should listen to each other and collaborate together.

FS: Can you talk a little about your design process?
PHH: First of all I’ll understand the need of clients and then to create and realize. Meanwhile I’ll also remove the unnecessary parts.

FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
PHH: Light, air, the movement of water, mobility and laughter.

FS: Can you describe a day in your life?
PHH: I’m busy at overseeing construction sites, my studio, designing, meeting and recharging myself.

PHH: Try as possible as you can. Be brave to experiment.

FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?

PHH: Patience, creativity and the eager to learn.

FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
