FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
APK: The desire for being a designer started in my childhood. I always thought about the products that they can be more stylish and functional. And now I have won 8 international design award.
FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
APK: Ihlas Home Appliances has been serving in goods and service production in its production complex, which has 15.000 m² closed area. Our company meets the major part of the domestic demand as a market leader in cleaning robots, reverse osmosis water treatment devices and instant water heaters by producing these products. Ihlas Home Appliances offers its household products for appreciation of its customers with Ihlas, Aura and Ora brands. We export more than 30 countries including Russia, Germany, Hungary, Greece, Portugal, Italy, Poland, Cameroon and South Africa. All products of our company are marketed by Ihlas Marketing, the distributor company, with a widespread agency network and selling channels.
FS: What is "design" for you?
APK: I think design is like poem. In poem there should be harmony of sound between words.L In design, all the items should have harmony as in a poem.
FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
APK: The products that make people's life easier.
FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
APK: My favorite design is Aura Cleanmax/roboclean SPLUS beacause it makes people's life healtier.
FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
APK: A instant water heater.
FS: When do you feel the most creative?
APK: In the evenings.
FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
APK: Ergonomics and easy usage.
FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
APK: I feel that I will have a baby soon.
FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
APK: I feel that my baby has been borned.
FS: What makes a design successful?
APK: To see your design as your child.
FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
APK: I think if it is distinctive, it is good.
FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
APK: To design products that facilitate people's lives and make them feel good.
FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
APK: The last exhibition is Canton Exhibition in April, 2016.
FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
APK: My main inspiration source is our customers.
FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
APK: I live in Istanbul, Turkey. Cultural heritage doesn't affect my designs too much.
FS: How do you work with companies?
APK: I work for only Ihlas Ev Aletleri that is the company that I work there.
FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
APK: Firstly, companies should look at the designer's history. Designer must have international desig awards.
FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
APK: Imaginativeness
FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
APK: Having different perspectives form other poeple are most important.
FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
APK: I work with my team.
