FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
UDLL: Universal Designovation Lab LLP (UDLab) is an international awards winning creative, innovative and customized product design consultancy. The design lab was founded by well know Indian designers, Bhavin R. Dabhi, Head, Machine Design and Bhagvanji M. Sonagra, Head, Product Design with intention of doing research based innovation in India. UDLab is specialize in custom product design, machine design, medical equipment design and Lab equipment design. UDLab brings together international award winner industrial designers, researchers, strategists and engineers to help achieve your business objectives. Our unique methodology and out of box thinking helps us breathe new life into your business or brand from some of the most creative minds in the industry. Our design experts can give you best innovative and modern solutions for your needs and requirements.
FS: What is "design" for you?
UDLL: For us design means creating product or service which solving and making people lives more easier with the most pleasing experience.
FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
UDLL: We both like working on mostly medical equipment designing, Lab product designing and machine tool equipment designing the most because there is a always scope improvement or inventing thing which can help people or enhance their system.
FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
UDLL: We did our first project in medical equipment field and the product was neonatal phototherapy machine for India. There are number of neonatal deaths every year and Jaundice is the one of main cases for new born mortality. Right now the Photo therapy unit available are either costly or not available to rural area where the demand for treatment is more. UDLab has designed LED Phototherapy which is is a cost effective and reliable solution that has been developed to target rural area. plus added advantage With integrated bassinet unit that can support under surface photo-therapy it can treat hyperbilirubinemia in comparatively less time and money spend per new born treated. For this invention UDLab has won national award call CII Design Excellence Awards 2014' in health and personal care category.
FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
UDLL: We both emphasises on inventing or re-inventing things we can lead to drastically transform user lives. So we go much in detail and evaluate every parameters we are even not related with product or project. We always believe creating product should not be dead it's should talk with u, it should understand you and always enhancing man and machine integration.
FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
UDLL: Our and UDLab first priority are developing product which can lead to new innovation and creating pleasing experience. Product should connect with user by their looks and feel or application.
FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
UDLL: As a designers we both believe the design a product which can improve the society level and helpful to environment.
FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
UDLL: We look every details and possible solution in and out. For inspiration we discuss, visualize and brainstorm among team and try to identify innovative form, factors or function. We use every possible product design theories and use TRIZ based technique to solve critical problem.
FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
UDLL: We lives in Rajkot City in Gujarat States, India. Our Rajkot city is famous for metal casting and machining works which gives us more advantage while designing and prototyping any product. Designing in India is very good compare to other countries due to bit of low design budget but quality remain same. India has a capacity to deliver path braking innovation with higher quality. India is going to become next power house in term of developing technologies and bright product design.
FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
UDLL: We like product which have potential to change user life.
FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
UDLL: We are product design studio. We develop product with team and we have very energetic designers in our team, We have Neha srivastava - product designer who generates innovative form and factor for our products, We have Mr.Rahul Gohil - Machine Designer, Who have an eagle eye on every machine and mechanism segments, We have manufacturing designer , Sujit Prasad who do marvellous product detailing and lead to easy manufacturing.
