Interview with Anita Savicka at Wednesday 11th of November 2020 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? AS: Anita Sondore was born in Preili, one of the oldest settlements in Latvia. Latvia is one of the two surviving Baltic languages in the world, bringing together a deep harmony with nature. Jewellery is Anita’s creative expression, but at its heart is the deep knowledge that runs in her blood for she is the granddaughter of the blacksmith . The brand is a summation of inspiration, experience and emotion. How interesting that for some time, Anita worked in the stone chip business by day, but at night in her private workshop, she handled a different class of stones – diamonds, emeralds and tourmalines. Now is the time for her to announce herself in her true calling. Anita is a graduate of the University of Latvia with a BA in visual and applied arts and technical drawing, and has an MBA from the Riga International School of Economics and Business Administration. Her jewelry training started at the Auzers Jewelry Art Center in Riga, followed by gold smith classed at the Ermini School of Jewelry in Rome, classes at the famed Van Cleef & Arpels atelier in Paris,Le Arti Orafe Jewellery School, Firenze, Italy . Finalised by Arts Academy of Latvia , Design Department studying Metal Design , Master. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? AS: Company Anita Sondore are founded in a year 2013. In my design studio, besides the professional jeweler tools, there are many different items which I use for creating the mood-board. There are herbarium, stones, wood bark ... nutshell from India...and many other heart and mind catching pieces. FS: What is "design" for you? AS: Design makes good things perfect. Particles of language of art organized in a nice story, intriguing and pleasant to read in the same time. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? AS: I like challenginge- and challange is in evrything:to create the pieces for art exhibition where the borders for inspiration and creativity are almost invisible, or to work for particular collection with given frame as well as the challenge to find the " golden thread" in particular persona to be emphasized by jewelry piece. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? AS: Moving Lights collection in 18k gold and diamonds featuring large chandelier earrings, bracelets and sophisticated necklaces.Collection Moving Lights are inspired by the ancient Baltic tribes tradition when dark evenings where bringing together different generations of the family , and in glittering candlelight by meditative work alternating between singing , serious storytelling and jokes was created wonderful works of art - embroidery, crochet and other masterpieces – things that we still admire today. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? AS: First was collection "Sounds of Silence", which was created to participeate in JA NewYork show Year 2014. The source of inspiration for the collection is the phenomenal Art Nouveau architecture of Riga which, due its richness and diversity has a UNESCO cultural heritage listing. One of the most captivating features of Riga Art Nouveau is the so-called National Romanticism style. The gifted architects of the time infused international architectural solutions with historical Latvian ornamentation containing powerful signs from their ethnographic heritage. That is precisely what I wanted to achieve with my SOUNDS OF SILENCE collection, which is based on Latvian ethnographic ornaments - to re-discover and take a look at one of Northern Europe’s richest cultural heritages, from a new point of view, and build on it, see it in a new light, through a different dimension, the creation of contemporary jewellery. The collection uses gold, diamonds, tourmaline, moonstones and onyx. Furthermore, the SOUNDS OF SILENCE collection also uses elements like different colored diamonds, enamel and rhodium. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? AS: Gold and Silver. Diamonds and colorful gemstones. FS: When do you feel the most creative? AS: when traveling, discovering different cultural traditions, nature FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? AS: the idea is most important...when idea is clear, you look for tools to deliver it to the and customer. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? AS: excitement, joy, happiness FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? AS: excitement, joy, happiness FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? AS: It is very important to plan your day even for artist its not the easiest task. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? AS: It can differ , but to create the complete collection it takes about 6 to 10 month. FS: Who are some of your clients? AS: Cheryl Boone Isaacs, reelected Academy President, have been wearing DEEP WATER earrings by ANITA SONDORE to 87th Annual Academy Awards (Oscars) Nominee Luncheon. FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? AS: What I lake to make the most is the first unique peaces inspired by some emotion, story or music. Afterwords around that peace and its story are created the whole collection. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? AS: I do develop my designs myself FS: How can people contact you?
