Interview with Irena kilibarda at Friday 1st of May 2015 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? IK: From an early age I liked to draw. I studied architecture and wanted always to become an interior designer. Throughout the interior design projects I started working on different types of lighting design projects as well as furniture designs. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? IK: dsignedby is founded during the year of 2008 by Iva (visual communication professional) and Irena Kilibarda (architect). It is a small studio working internationally mainly in the fields of interior design, visual communication and product design. FS: What is "design" for you? IK: Design is making ideas come true- producing your imagination. It is a combination of different forms of art and engineering. FS: When do you feel the most creative? IK: Usually when travelling by plane, or during the evenings when it is calm FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? IK: construction, functionality, sustainability and useability FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? IK: I am concentrated and I can work for hours, happiness FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? IK: I am always present during the whole process of production or manufacture; I like seeing the product or interior project grow FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? IK: possibility of manufacture/production, function, design lines, its' use FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? IK: My last exhibition was during Milano Fuorisalone, Superdesign Show in Superstudio group/ Tortona 27, Milano/ 14-19.04.2015 and the ''Simplicity of Black&White'' dsignedby exhibition at Stilwerk limited edition contemporary design gallery Hamburg/ 20.03-16.05.2015 Milano EXPO from 1st of May, taking part of pavillion Serbia, Bio-Mediterraneum Cluster FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? IK: from my architectural and interior design work FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? IK: I travel most of the time, but my base is still in Belgrade, Serbia where dsignedby studio is located-main office. FS: Can you describe a day in your life? IK: 24h of work. FS: What skills are most important for a designer? IK: logical thinking and engineering, functionality
