Interview with Summerhaus D'zign Pte Ltd at Wednesday 26th of October 2016 FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? SDPL: Summerhaus D'zign was founded in 2012 with the intention to bring truly bespoke design services to clients. We focus in the well-being of our clients, offering customised design services to meet their individual requirements. Every project that we undertake must have the element of "newness" so that all projects we do is unique on its own. Hence our belief to provide Bespoke solutions and achieving Novelty in design. Since incorporation, we have been actively helping home owners design high-end residential houses in Singapore. Summerhaus D'zign has grown to a boutique design studio with with a team of 8. FS: What is "design" for you? SDPL: We believe that design is the expression of a person’s experience, perception, penchants and emotions of that moment. FS: What makes a design successful? SDPL: Design is a subjective subject. To us, a successful design is when the client is truly satisfied with what he sees. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? SDPL: Functionality, Practicality, Aesthetics and Simplicity. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? SDPL: I would say the balance of the real life and idealism is crucial of being a designer. Many designs conceived are great but are unable to be realised because of multiple real life factors such as functionality, practicality, costs of realising, client acceptance etc. It's important that the designer keeps all these in mind and is able to see things from the client's perspective, understand from the client's point and combines all these into his design. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? SDPL: Bespoke, Novelty. Bespoke to what my client wants, Novelty designs conceived for each project. FS: What skills are most important for a designer? SDPL: Designers must develop a personal taste and appreciation of arts, fashion, beauty and fancy things that are nice. Open-mindedness is equally importantly as designers must be fluid enough to try out never before seen concepts and ideas. FS: Who are some of your clients? SDPL: Some of them are notable individuals in Singapore whom I am unable to name. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? SDPL: We are looking at increasing our capabilities and expanding our scope of design services. As such, we are looking for partners to work with. We are open to talk to international design firms who are looking to enter the Singaporean market or architects who are looking for partnerships with interior design firms. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? SDPL: We work as a team. All designs conceived undergo a series of open criticism by fellow members of the design team and the original design is improved from there. This process repeats itself until the entire team is satisfied with the outcome. FS: How can people contact you? SDPL: Please contact us via myhaus@summerhaus.com.sg and visit our website www.summerhaus.com.sg
