Interview with Keyang Liu at Friday 11th of July 2014 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? KL: I want to be a designer cause I want to make things around us better. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? KL: I'm also a student. FS: What is "design" for you? KL: Design is life. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? KL: simple and practical FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? KL: MINI car.Actually it's not a small car. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? KL: A logo. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? KL: I like wood best. FS: When do you feel the most creative? KL: It's hard to say,it comes out when it comes out. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? KL: function FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? KL: exciting FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? KL: relax FS: What makes a design successful? KL: To adapt to the times and the crowd FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? KL: The impact on the environment. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? KL: My work should make people's lives more natural and also be no harm to the environment. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? KL: It evolves the whole life of people,design will be more and more important in the future cause people need a quality life.Light Technology will be used more in the future. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? KL: Um..I don't have enough works to hold an exhibition. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? KL: I'd like to keep my eye on the details in my life.So it comes from my life,something around me. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? KL: Simple and practical.People accept them easily. Find and solve problems. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? KL: I live in CHINA,of course it affects me ,but it's too conservative. FS: How do you work with companies? KL: Do something the clients ask me to do. FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? KL: Trust and respect designers and their work.Select them through their work. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? KL: It's random. FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? KL: light,hood,earphone FS: Can you describe a day in your life? KL: sleep,food,design,sport,movie FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? KL: I'm still too young. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? KL: there are no negative aspects FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? KL: easy to understand FS: What skills are most important for a designer? KL: communicate FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? KL: Rhiniceros and Photoshop most. FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? KL: put it in my daily life FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? KL: a day or an hour FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? KL: you sleep well? FS: What was your most important job experience? KL: the days in a Student Organization FS: Who are some of your clients? KL: not so much by now FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? KL: simple,cause people know the way to use it as they see it. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? KL: be an excellent ID designer FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? KL: both FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
