Interview with Yi-Sin Huang at Sunday 18th of March 2018 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? YH: In order to solve more issues which appear in the current productions, I like to observe and modify it. It is always feel good to break all of issues we have found in current productions and to make it better. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? YH: Create more goods to make our life more convenient. FS: What is "design" for you? YH: Make our life better. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? YH: Create the things to solve the problems and to present a new function and a new value upon people's life. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? YH: Any designs can make our life better are my favorites. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? YH: Bicycle. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? YH: Metal, carbon, and wooden are my favorite materials. FS: When do you feel the most creative? YH: When attend into the exhibition. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? YH: Safety and useful are two aspects I focus more during my designing. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? YH: Mostly, I keep careful emotion when I design. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? YH: When my designs are realized, I always feel released and joy. FS: What makes a design successful? YH: Present a life and a meaning into a project. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? YH: Every time after judging, I do review my project as a whole again no matter is good or bed. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? YH: Make the project to live with our environment is the responsibility of a designer. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? YH: The design field is evolving with the new needs. And every one can be the designer because we all know very well what we expect. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? YH: 2014 IF IBDC Professionals online exhibitions all over the world. I would like to make most of designs I have now to be real and then to hold the exhibitions in locally Italy. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? YH: Daily experiences. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? YH: Rational and simplify. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? YH: Morality and virtue of Taiwan cultural are affects to my designs. FS: How do you work with companies? YH: Trust and mutual assistance are main keys to achieve our goal when I work with companies. FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? YH: Respect each other's point of view and design professional knowledge. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? YH: Observe, Analysis, Think, Make, Review, and Remake. FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? YH: Water tap, Book shelve, Furniture, Chair, and Telephone. FS: Can you describe a day in your life? YH: Thinking, Observing, and Making. FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? YH: Making various, thinking different, reviewing, and exercise. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? YH: Humble and progressive are positives thinking of being a designer. And self-centered and ignore the real needs are negatives behave of being a designer. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? YH: Take it easy. FS: What skills are most important for a designer? YH: Careful and serious mind are most important skills for a designer. FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? YH: Machinery design books are very useful tools for my design work. FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? YH: Schedule my daily tasks. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? YH: 3 to 6 month. FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? YH: What is your design inspiration of your designing? FS: What was your most important job experience? YH: Make samples and test samples. FS: Who are some of your clients? YH: Everyone can be my clients. FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? YH: I enjoy doing any type of design works because it helps my thoughts to be realized. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? YH: Plan to check out all of good designs all over the world. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? YH: I develop my own designs. FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about? YH: Yes, and will update it in Karl H Studio web when is ready. FS: How can people contact you? YH: Via E-mail or FB or other social net work. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? YH: Not specific.
