Interview with Ayelet Fishman at Tuesday 29th of April 2014 FS: When do you feel the most creative? AF: When I don't try to be creative. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? AF: My design process may differ from project to project, but the main principle is always the same. I begin my process with research and setting goals. Then starts the concept development stage which includes ideation, sketching and form finding. This is followed by prototyping, detailing, CAD modelling, rendering which allow me to further develop and refine the design. FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? AF: My 5 favorite design items at home are my Macbook, which is a team member and a close friend, my Braun wrist watch designed by Dieter Rams, a pair of shoes designed by Melissa and Campana brothers, an Alessi kettle and my bic orange fine pen. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? AF: To break the rules. FS: What skills are most important for a designer? AF: Curiosity and persistence are important traits for a designer. Designers should also always be open and willing to learn new things. Of course it doesn't hurt to be a good sketcher and have good 3D understanding. FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? AF: My sources of inspiration are flexible and diverse. Inspiration and ideas can come from a book, an everyday object, a movie or even a person you encounter. My toolbox is just as varied, consisting of classical design skills and softwares as well as anything that can be of use. Having traveled a lot, I also take from my personal experiences. FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? AF: I believe that as designers we have the opportunity to influence and change the world for the better. That's why I'm very passionate about design projects that have a social aspect or that help solve problems. FS: How can people contact you? AF: http://cargocollective.com/ayeletfishman via email: ayeletfishm@yahoo.com
