Interview with Sheng Tao at Sunday 12th of August 2018 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? ST: I was a person who liked painting since childhood, and my father was engaged in architecture related work, so I was greatly influenced by my father, and then I was admitted to the art school naturally and became a designer. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? ST: 74/5000 Dengsheng space design is a professional space design and planning advisory body founded in 2005 by Mr. Tao sheng, is a group of dedicated, innovative, pragmatic and young outstanding designers from the core design team. FS: What is "design" for you? ST: Interior, furniture, architecture, etc FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? ST: My favorite works should be thoughtful and have a profound expression of space shaping. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? ST: So far, there is no favorite design. In fact, every well-designed work deserves our appreciation. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? ST: The first thing I designed for the company was a dining table. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? ST: Latex paint, toughened glass FS: When do you feel the most creative? ST: When it's quiet at night FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? ST: I pay more attention to the reasonable planning of space and the perfection of functions. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? ST: My thinking before design will be very calm, when the inspiration will be more excited, there will be passion. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? ST: Sense of achievement, excitement FS: What makes a design successful? ST: Continuous learning, dedication to design, do not forget the original intention FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? ST: Functional rationality FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? ST: Stylist leads the life direction of client, when choosing decorate material environmental protection is our center of gravity, avoid as far as possible the environment that lives to us causes damage. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? ST: The Internet has brought the rapid development of design information, good design products are more and more popular, design changes life FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? ST: There have been no individual exhibitions so far FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? ST: The architecture of the master architect visited every year is a part of the growth of the design FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? ST: The simplicity is deeply influenced by the architecture master corbusier. The design features the maximum use of space and clear moving lines FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? ST: China will definitely present in the works unconsciously, and there will be more opportunities in the booming China. FS: How do you work with companies? ST: Teamwork has always been our business model FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? ST: Like-minded is the premise of cooperation, we are good at the direction, perseverance is the most important quality FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? ST: 《Office box》《Yanjule.tianyue》《SINOTOP OFFICE》《Unbounded》《Keep Moving》 FS: Can you describe a day in your life? ST: I get up at 7 o 'clock every day, read for 20 minutes, listen to the radio for 20 minutes at breakfast time, deal with affairs and design communication in the company from 9 AM to 7 PM, read for 20 minutes after supper at 8 PM, arrange a 30-minute exercise time, and fall asleep at 11 PM. FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? ST: Young designers are advised to see more, accumulate more and persevere. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? ST: As a designer, my personal design ability is superior. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? ST: Stick to the design you feel is perfect. FS: What skills are most important for a designer? ST: Thinking and integration FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? ST: CAD、Photoshop、Sketchup FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? ST: Thinking is a very time-consuming process, and we achieve efficiency through the assistance of the team. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? ST: This does not have a specific time, different project cycle will be different. FS: What was your most important job experience? ST: I used to work for a private company and have developed many communication skills with clients. FS: Who are some of your clients? ST: We have a wide customer base, maybe housing, coffee shop, hospital, etc. FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? ST: I like the design project that party a does not intervene, so that the complete design idea can be expressed. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? ST: My future plan is to build a mature design team so that I can do design and research independently. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
