Interview with David Irwin at Friday 11th of April 2014 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? DI: I have always had a curiosity for how things are made and enjoyed creating things myself. DI: The studio's design focus is rooted in material exploration and driven by a desire to assign purpose to both traditional and contemporary manufacturing processes. The goal with all my work is to combine a strong concept with fundamental usefulness resulting in simple, innovative and refined solutions which aid our daily lives. I always strive to design quality pieces with elegance and beauty at their heart resulting in products that will stand the test of time. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? DI: Jed armchair for Habitat FS: What makes a design successful? DI: Consideration FS: Who are some of your clients? DI: Deadgood, Juniper, Habitat, Heals, Gardiner Richardson
