Interview with Keren Shiker at Sunday 19th of January 2014 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? KS: I am an Interior Design graduate degree - B. Design. I am driven by the desire to bring my creativity into practical and exciting products and spaces. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? KS: In my design I provide a unique and fresh experience for any home or public space while fulfilling the client's personal fantasies from the general concept and to the smallest finishing details. FS: What is "design" for you? KS: I Live and breath art, design and architecture. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? KS: All kinds of works, from the smallest products to the biggest spaces. I love challenges. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? KS: The "VOLCANO", a furniture that allows various forms for sitting and lying. The volcano is a furniture that was built from round wooden surface with holes, which soft tubes pass through it to create the sitting surface. The tubes fit themselves to you during the sitting and you can change them in several ways for your convenience. In fact , I've created piece of furniture that can be positioned in various poses in order to sit or lie , alone, in a couple or with a group of friends nestling in it . FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? KS: I like to use and learn different material and technology in each project and to create something new from them. FS: When do you feel the most creative? KS: When I have a great inspiration. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? KS: Concept. I want that my designs will tell a story and to give new experience for the user. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? KS: Curiosity and excitement to realized my ideas. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? KS: I'm excited when my ideas are realized. FS: What makes a design successful? KS: Visual looks and the design story behind it. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? KS: Visual looks and the design story behind it. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? KS: The designers will design the future and we must consider the society and environment with every design statement. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? KS: My last exhibition was in 100% DESIGN - LONDON DESIGN FESTIVAL // U.K. 2013. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? KS: The nature is my main inspirations combine with sense of humour. I'm also get inspired from different materials. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? KS: My design style is with personal touch, abstract, artistic and sculptural. I repeat one element to empower its presence. To tell a story with product or space and to share that experience. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? KS: I'm starting with research and images and then I works with materials and models. FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
