Interview with Yu-Wen Chiu (Vita) at Friday 17th of March 2017 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? YC: I have engaged in interior design since I was eighteen.I have interior bachelor's degree,and architecture Master's degree.This is my job and I am really interested in. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? YC: Our company has three branches,one in Taipei,Taiwan;one in Kaohsiung,Taiwan;one in Beijing,China.We design interior,architecture,and furniture. FS: What is "design" for you? YC: design is complete the dreams of the clients. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? YC: we like everything. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? YC: As a designer, I like every style.To make every design precision is my favorite design. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? YC: A chair. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? YC: Natural material,stone and wood. FS: When do you feel the most creative? YC: Reading. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? YC: Integrity and requires of clients. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? YC: peaceful. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? YC: peaceful. FS: What makes a design successful? YC: Integrity. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? YC: First image. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? YC: To make people and earth, life and growth in nature. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? YC: Design goes by fashion.Classic is never out of fashion. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? YC: none. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? YC: Reading and travel. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? YC: Low profile but quality. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? YC: I live in Taiwan. FS: How do you work with companies? YC: Case by case. FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? YC: Trust your designer. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? YC: Case by case.Every design has different process. FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? YC: Kitchen,sofa,chair,bookcase,fitting room FS: Can you describe a day in your life? YC: I work almost all day,sometime I work in the office,sometime on the plane,sometime at home. FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? YC: work hard,enjoy your life. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? YC: Find your own way,everything is positive. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? YC: Classic is never out of fashion. FS: What skills are most important for a designer? YC: passion. FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? YC: Brain and computers. FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? YC: Enjoy my life. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? YC: From a week to a month. FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? YC: What will my home look like? FS: What was your most important job experience? YC: Every job is important. FS: Who are some of your clients? YC: Anyone needs to hire an interior designer. FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? YC: I enjoy every type of design.A good designer hsa to like every types of design. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? YC: I would like to do designs to the world. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? YC: Usually I develop by myself. FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about? YC: none.
