Interview with Gustavo Piqueira at Friday 15th of March 2013 FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? GP: Casa Rex is an international design consultancy active in the market for over 14 years and credited with over 160 awards. In 2010, in addition to our São Paulo headquarters, we've opened an office in London. I head a multi-cultural team of almost 40 people developing strategic design for global consumer brands; original design for editorial, corporate and environmental projects; and cutting-edge experimental design for anything from typefaces to homeware. To know more, please access: www.casarex.com FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? GP: It's impossible to predict the future, but the design field has been gaining more and more recognition, and therefore playing a more important role, and it's exciting to be part of that. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? GP: I live in São Paulo, Brazil. The cultural background always poses as an important influence, but it's not the only one. Design is growing in Brazil right now and starting to get the deserved recognition, and it's very exciting to be a part of that, but at the same time it's not a matured field yet. FS: How do you work with companies? GP: Most of our clients are companies and we have a very good relationship. Brigaderia, for example, has been our partner for dome years now and that brought a lot of great projects to life. FS: Who are some of your clients? GP: We have worked with local and global companies, some of our global clients are Unilever, Galderma, Firmenich, Gruppo Campari, Pfizer, Pepsico, and Johnson & Johnson. FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? GP: There's never only one type of work, but I look forward to projects where you can create an element of surprise, irreverence and humor. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? GP: Personal projects aside, I usually work with the team I've gathered at Casa Rex. FS: How can people contact you? GP: By phones +55 11 3862.7770 | +55 11 3803.7010 or contato@casarex.com
