Interview with Lucy Ceylan at Tuesday 12th of February 2013 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? LC: Growing up as a young girl my desire was to become an interior designer but never got myself in roled into any school programs for it and my desire faded over the years. My mother being a dressmaker is what i believe gave me the natural knack for designing. Not to mention my father is a cobbler. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? LC: Fashion and accessories. FS: When do you feel the most creative? LC: When i'm alone and bored i tend to be most creative. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? LC: I focus mostly on solution solving that will allow my idea(s)to blossom to life of a perfected creation. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? LC: Designing relaxes me. Its like my mind is being massaged. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? LC: Contentment, successful FS: What makes a design successful? LC: Positive feedback from others... Others wanting and or needing the use of the design created for their own benefits as well. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? LC: When judging a design i would first consider if others or the public would appreciate and find use for the design. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? LC: Unique is how i like to describe my work. I like to make my designs stand out from other existing similar designs. FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? LC: Design comes within. Don't be scared or shy away from sharing what your creative mind says within. Let your personal colors bleed. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? LC: Don't rush! FS: What skills are most important for a designer? LC: Seeing what others don't and bringing to life. FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? LC: I manage my time for my design work with patience. I work on my projects when i am free and have hours to work on my project without needing to be interrupted. I don't force myself into getting my design work done. I work on my projects only when i feel i am in creating mode. Which is usually when i am alone. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? LC: Can't answer that. All objects take various times and it depends on how the designer's mind brainstorms his or her creative ideas. FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? LC: Where/ how do you come up with your ideas? FS: What was your most important job experience? LC: Preparing for a Presentation for one of my designs to a well established company. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? LC: My future plan is the licensing of my Shoe technology/Patent to an existing company(s). What's next for me... is the new design project i am working on now in hopes of also making it come to life. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? LC: I develope all my work by myself. FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about? LC: Working presently working on a bikini/bra line.
