Interview with Maria Anvar at Saturday 14th of March 2015 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? MA: I am mainly a self taught artist. When it comes to jewellery design I did take professional training courses to understand the technical aspect necessary to design jewellery. I directed my focus towards arts after completing my education in business studies. As I had always wanted to become a designer but somehow i never got a chance to study arts. FS: What is "design" for you? MA: Design to me is LIFE. Its the reason for my sanity. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? MA: Designs inspired by nature and structural forms. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? MA: Lost in another realm. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? MA: Satisfied FS: What makes a design successful? MA: Every design that is translated from an idea to reality is successful for me. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? MA: I dont categorize a design to be good or bad. Design to me is a reflection of the designers state of mind or their inspirations and how confident they are to experiment. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? MA: My design style is minimalist. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? MA: Two words 'Hard-work' FS: What skills are most important for a designer? MA: Visualization FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? MA: basic tools! pencil and a sketchbook, then use additional tools as you progress with the design. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? MA: Depends on the design. I may dwell on an idea for weeks or can complete it in a day. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? MA: Both
