Interview with Alex Petunin & Elijah Robineau at Monday 14th of April 2014 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? APER: I am designer because I love it FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? APER: YORB DESIGN was founded by Hotelier Patrick Robineau, YORB DESIGN creates the future of dining through aesthetic, functionality and uniqueness. We use cutting edge materials, design and technology to stimulate the mind through visual and tactile experiences. We help you deliver truly individual culinary presentations setting new standards for creativity and innovation. We reinvent the way we eat and present food today for tomorrow and we pride ourselves to produce in limited production. "Once we rid ourselves of traditional thinking we can get on with creating the future" FS: What is "design" for you? APER: Future FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? APER: Futurism FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? APER: All works of Karim Rashid, Zaha Hadid, Ross Lovegrove, Luigi Colani and Anish Kapoor FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? APER: Sunlonger FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? APER: 3ds max FS: When do you feel the most creative? APER: Everytime FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? APER: Shape FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? APER: Joy FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? APER: Happiness FS: What makes a design successful? APER: People who love it FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? APER: Beauty and practish FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? APER: To make life better FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? APER: The future is design is artifical intelligence + 3d printing FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? APER: Milano Isaloni 2014, next will be at Singapore or Dubai FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? APER: The life, the world.. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? APER: My style is "Alex Petunin style", I can't say that I have any style but myself. All i do is a result of my perception of reality FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? APER: Saint-Petersburg, Russia. It's historical city and my design is a protest to the environment i live FS: How do you work with companies? APER: First I understand what the Client wants, than I read a lot about the Company, than think, visualize the result and find the answer what I whould design. FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? APER: The companies should see through work of designer to his soul and values, and if it is exactly what they look for, they must give maximum of freedom for designer - this is the way to great results. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? APER: Thinking - mind visualization - drawing - 3ds max - photoshop FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? APER: Karim Rashid, Zaha Hadid, Ross Lovegrove, Luigi Colani and Anish Kapoor FS: Can you describe a day in your life? APER: Wonderful! FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? APER: To love this great profession FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? APER: positive - all and everything, negative - nothing FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? APER: To follow the beauty FS: What skills are most important for a designer? APER: 3d modeling and rendering, sell the talent FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? APER: 3ds max ACAD PS CS6, pencil, ipad FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? APER: Just do what is most important FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? APER: 0,14 - 1,00 day FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? APER: How much is your design? FS: What was your most important job experience? APER: Everyday new day job is more important than previous FS: Who are some of your clients? APER: Gazprom, Sberbank, Beeline, Scavolini, Expoforum, Hilton, a lot of privat clients FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? APER: process of creating 3d shape, beecause it's easy and beautiful FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? APER: My future plan is to be a design star number one in the world. My next is installation in Saint-Petersburg design week 2014 FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
