DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Fouete

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Bed

INSPIRATION:
Grace and the energy of ballet were the incentive for the creation of this model. The ballet skirt outfit and the swift pas are reflected in the soft folds of the headboard. A thin silk edging along the perimeter emphasizes the trajectory of the flying fouete. The overlap of silk ribbons on the base of the bed and elegant silver legs, as their continuation, will remind you of ballet shoes. The combination of soft forms and the inner core as the quintessence of ballet art. The item combines the historical past and the modern look at the eventual look of your bedroom.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Fouete bed has gathered both the traditions of upholstered furniture production and the desire to experiment with the possibility of sculpturesque fabrics' creation.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
In addition to the main function this model forms the atmosphere, because of its geometry directly associated with ballet pas.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
December-January 2020. Moscow.Russia

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Furniture Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The main difficulty in the manufacture of the bed is the manual work with the fabric, in this case with cashmere. Long radius folds are stacked by hand and secured along the radius of the headboard with a thin fringing of silk fabric. This is exactly the free fold, not the upholstery of the roller. A round bolster at the headboard additionally captures the mass of fabric. Silk ribbons are threaded through holes in the upholstery of the bed base and are fixed crosswise. Wooden legs trimmed with silver.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
The size of the bed is 2000 2060 h 1550. The frame of the base and the headboard are made of solid wood using plywood. Natural materials such as horsehair and natural wool are used as soft filling for shaping. Upholstery is made of dense 100% cashmere, which makes it possible to create soft folds at the headboard panel. Silk edging with diameter of 7mm fixes the laiden radial folds and closes the junction with a rounded edge around the perimeter of the headboard. In the corners of the base at the footing there is a decor of crossed ribbons of textured silk. Wooden legs are covered with silver patal.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Traditional versions of upholstered furniture use standard upholstery patterns. This is partly due to the materials used for this. The main goal was to get a non-standard, new look at the geometry of the fabric when upholstering the headboard.

CHALLENGE:
To convey motion and energy in a static object was the main task of this project. The smooth geometry of the head panel and soft cashmere radius folds set the direction of this movement.
