DESIGN NAME: Riposo
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Coffee Set
INSPIRATION: The concept is based on an approach to classical subjects from the point of view of functionalism and strict geometry. This project was inspired by the manifestos of the Russian avant-garde, the German Bauhaus and constructivism: what is functional and convenient is also beautiful.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Thoughtful functionality and a bright contrast of textured cork and smooth milk-white porcelain for those who follow the latest trends and always choose comfort.
The handles of the teapot and cup are set aside a little more than usual so that they are less heated. The lid made of cork is also functional - it is impossible to burn yourself with it and because of its elasticity, it will not fall when pouring. The simple shape without hidden cavities or sharp corners means that the teapot, sugar bowl and cup are easy to wash.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The design of this project addresses to an audience that is a little tired of the modern complex and dynamic world and promises honesty and simplicity.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2018 and finished in 2019 in Saint-Petersburg, Russia.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Contrast is a key element of the design language of this project. Contrast of hard and soft, warm and cold, smooth and rough and so on. As part of the design, study different types of materials were tested such as wood, dark ceramics, and others. However, only the cork material has become the link that connects functionality, aesthetics and technology together.
CHALLENGE: The main technological challenge was to achieve a strict geometry of objects. As you know, it is quite difficult to get even lines in ceramics, and especially in porcelain. It was possible to solve this problem by selecting the optimal wall profiles and minor changes in the external surfaces. However, the basic design concept (straight geometric lines) remained unchanged.
