DESIGN NAME: Dancer
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Electric City Bus
INSPIRATION: Dancer - to find benefits for the environment alongside economic logics.
Dancer visual inspiration comes from the light moves, meanwhile, technical inspiration flows from the world of racing yachts.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Dancer is a city transport solution that includes electric buses, full maintenance, and its own green energy supply.
It is engineered inhouse from scratch, making it the lightest full-size bus in the world with a 6min super-fast charging.
Curved sidewalls give extra strength and are made with the use of recycled PET bottles. The body is rounded up the plan view to give extra manoeuvrability.
Rear screen enhances traffic visibility for fellow drivers or is used for advertising purposes.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Dancer body is ultralight therefore saving energy, has rounded exterior for enhanced manoeuvrability and an exterior rear screen used for advertisement or enhanced road safety.
The bus is equipped with rearview cameras, 360-degree infrared night vision, automatic ramp for disabled and a fully automated connection to the charging station.
Drivers cockpit has a customizable infotainment system while the passenger space has extra-large windows, a skylight, minimalistic and a spacious interior.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was started in 2012 in Lithuania, Klaipeda city.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Vehicle, Mobility and Transportation Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The bus body structure is made of 5 large modules that resemble wind power turbines or sports yachts construction concepts. Due to the modular structure assembly is simplified compared to other buses on the market. The composite structure is made of glass fibre, vinyl ester resin and recycled PET foam. Dancer body is ultra-light, strong and ready for re-recycling.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Vehicle length / Width / Height: 12,1 / 2,5 / 3,2 m
Top speed: 70 km / h
Average range: 90 - 110 km depending on conditions
Charging time: 6 min for 100 km range
Passengers overall: 100 plus driver
Comforts: HVAC / USB for passengers / Automatic ramp / Skylight / Rear screen safety feature / 360 degree view cameras

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The new bus body construction technology was invented in-house in cooperation with Klaipeda University. As a result of various scientific projects, new modular structure and composite material were developed. Modular structure concept simplifies assembling while the newly developed composite material ensures lightness and is ready for re-recycling. Similar modular concepts allowing large part assembly is new for a bus industry, thus widely used in wind turbine and sporting yachts engineering.
CHALLENGE: While mainstream e-bus producers were only updating their regular buses, our main challenge was to rethink the bus construction, make it ultra-light, attractive for passengers and friendly for the environment.
