| DESIGN NAME: Black Tailors Original Collection PRIMARY FUNCTION: Fashion Accessories INSPIRATION: With materials that are bendable and cut extremely thin by special mineral cutting techniques, the designer aims to demonstrate the sensory effect of natural minerals and create different local graffiti culture and images by applying the 3D printing technology directly on the materials, toppling the stereotype of natural minerals being heavy and hard and transforming them into chic accessories that are easy to carry around and define your style. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The special mineral fabric for making bags of the Original Collection is extracted from mica, shale, and quartz, cut into veneers with special cutting techniques and then incorporated into the design of stylish handmade bags manufactured in Taiwan. During the process of making the fabric, we purposely keep the original colors, patterns, and the feel of the naturally derived mineral veneers to emphasize the unique sensory effect of every bag. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Every piece from the collection is designed to be used by people for multiple purposes in everyday life. Passport holder is ideal for your passport, you may use it as your notebook cover. The cellphone bags are large enough for the largest cellphone currently available in the market and is also the most lightweight mini bag available; the mini tablet bags are perfect accessories for tablets less than 10 inches, bags of different sizes are available for you to choose from and for different usages. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The promotion for Original Collection kicked off in 2015. In May of 2016, we took part in the Creative Expo Taiwan and received the Cultural and Creative Award and Trendsetting Special Award for our bags. Meanwhile, we also participated in the trade show Giftex Tokyo, fashion trade shows such as Capsule, Who's Next and received the Dfa Design for Asia Awards in Hong Kong. In 2018, our products were displayed in Creative Expo Taiwan, and Style Bangkok Fair in Thailand. In April 2019, our new and improved products were displayed in Creative Expo Taiwan. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The materials used to make the entire collection include laminated fabric and natural stone veneers, dark gray felt, microfiber and plating metals. First, glue to attach the natural stone veneer and laminated fabric onto dark gray felt to make sure that the products are bendable and won't break easily. Then, cut the material with the special designed die cut mold. The cut materials will be sewn and assembled with hardware pieces to become end use products. The end products will then go through the quality control procedure and packaging. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The arched bag flap having geometric collages are the identifying and core ideas for Original Collection and the series include cardholders, passport holders, coin purses, cellphone bags, and mini tablet bags. Their dimensions and weights are: 5 x 11 x 0.8 cm and 22 g for each cardholder, 11 x 14 x 1.2cm and 62g for each passport holder, 8 x 11.5 x 3cm and 42g for each coin purse, 1 x 19 x 3.5cm and 110g for each cellphone bag and 16.2 x 21.5 x 3.5cm and 195g for each mini tablet bag. TAGS: Natural stone veneer & laminated fabric, industrial design, crossover design, stylish bags, self-definition, city palette, local features RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Entering the fashion industry from the angle of industrial design, special structures and materials, and experimental techniques are applied to create the beautiful appearances of the bags in this collection. The special stone veneer and laminated fabric usually found in architecture and interior design is no longer bound to architecture and crosses over to the fashion industry. The patterns printed directly on the bags remind us of the analog of graffiti on walls and images on bags, creating diverse local features on bags. CHALLENGE: 1.The crossover application of stone veneers and laminated fabric. The materials used to make the bags in this collection are natural minerals that are not intended for bags and purses in the first place. That is why the subsequent manufacturing procedure and details need to be adjusted accordingly and the durability needs to be tested. 2. To redefine the local features: graffiti and iconic stickers unique to certain areas are available throughout the world. Such brand featured icons need to be redesigned without changing their spirit. Communicating with the locals about this is the most challenging part.
