| DESIGN NAME: OBDeleven PRIMARY FUNCTION: Smart Vehicle Diagnostic Tool INSPIRATION: The intention to help drivers easily understand their modern vehicles without complex equipment encouraged us to create an innovative device that is simple to connect and small enough to carry. That’s why the modern car key, as the main accessory in every driver’s pocket, has inspired us to create a device that is similar in color, size, and material. Its shape is also made to fit the OBDII port where it is necessary to be connected. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The device stands out with its solid design and glowing LED light - the driver can choose the light color to match car interior lighting or display personal taste. Compared to other devices of professional-grade functionality OBDeleven is the smallest diagnostic device which - differently from others - also has an easy remove function: a strip for convenient extraction. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: OBDeleven is a wireless device, which can fully connect to the vehicle operating system with cloud-based software via smartphone or tablet. Being a part of daily drivers routine, the device fits a car in every aspect: it blends with the car panel when it is plugged, and when removed, it finds its place in any car storage. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2018 in Kaunas and publicly released in November 2019 |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The device is manufactured using the highest quality materials and innovative technologies. The matte finish of plastic surfaces is enhanced by shiny elements. Different materiality gives a sense of luxury. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 41mm x Depth 24mm x Heigh 33mm TAGS: OBDeleven, Smart, Vehicle, Diagnostic, Tool RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This segment devices on the market look very primitive. As a Next-generation device, OBDeleven is a more advanced version of its predecessor. It is based on the First-generation OBDeleven user experience and perception. This sets the product apart from the competitors because of its unique features and better capabilities. Therefore, we have worked hard to ensure that the design clearly communicates these features. CHALLENGE: The diagnostic devices that can compete with OBDeleven in functionality level are larger and bulky, we have tried to keep the design as small as possible and make it a part of the driver's daily life, a fashion accessory that combines innovative technologies with simplicity. In order to transfer the functionality of the professional software into the smallest possible design, even the tiniest details had to go through 4 iterations until the device was properly refined and got sleeker shapes.
