DESIGN NAME: Blue
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Dog Collar
INSPIRATION: I have for many years been making necklaces for dogs, and it makes me so happy to see how comfortable most dogs are in a necklace. I have also been making dog collars. It has always bothered me that the collar has to come off when the necklace goes on. Most dog owners like to keep the collar on, always. With this design, a detachable necklace, the owner can adorn their dog when they wish, and with a different design for different occasions.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is not only a Dog Collar, it is a Dog Collar with a detachable necklace. Frida is using a high quality leather with solid brass buckle, D ring and two smaller D rings rivets with a swivel head. When designing this piece she had to consider a simple secure way of attaching the necklace while the dog is wearing the collar. The collar also had to have a luxurious feel without the necklace. This unique design allows the dog to wear a different necklace for different occasions.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The dog is able to wear his collar at all times. When the time comes for a special occasion the owner can easily attach the necklace on the collar.
This collar is designed to look and feel good with or without the necklace, and also give the owner an option of different designs of necklaces to use.
The leather I am using is Vachetta Pesante, Vegetable tanned leather from Toscana, a sustainable choice.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The initial idea for this design started in March 2016, in Thailand, while I was brain storming with a friend on how to make a necklace and collar in one simple design. The finished product was completed by 27th of September 2018, in Milan, Italy. I have since made a collection of necklaces based on the same design. This particular necklace was created for a short movie I was making for my brand.
I designed the necklace and made it in October 2019, in Milan, Italy.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: I am using a high quality leather, Vachetta Pesante, with solid brass buckle, D ring and two smaller D rings rivets with a swivel head. The necklace is attached with to the collar with a clasp in brass that is connected to a solid brass chain. From the chain I have created a net of semi-precious stones and brass chain, this is so that the dog can run around without any damage to the necklace. The stones used are Turquoise, Emerald, Jade, Green Garnet, Lapis Lazuli, Aventurine, Garnet, Blue Gold stone, Onyx and swarovski. When designing this piece I had to consider a simple secure way of attaching the necklace while the dog is wearing the collar. The collar also had to have a luxurious feel without the necklace.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The collar Length 600mm Width 30mm Necklace Length 150mm Width 140mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: From having created both necklaces and collars for dogs since 2007, I have had many discussions over the years about quality and preferences, with the people who know best, the dog owners.
I designed a product that is of high quality, and as sustainable as possible. The leather I found is Vachetta Pesante, Vegetable tanned leather from Toscana. The necklace needed to be simple to put on and sit securly. I designed the necklace as a net of chain and stones that allows the dog to move and jump around, and still keep the necklace intact.
CHALLENGE: What I had to think about in this project was creating a high quality dog collar that looks good on its own. Then a necklace that was easy for the dog owner to attach, and sat on securely while the dog moves around.
I chose to use Vachetta Pesante, vegetable tanned leather from Tuscany, because I wanted to be as close to sustainable as I possibly could.
As with any product that contains glass and stone, I have to by law have a warning label with my product.
