| DESIGN NAME: Eastern Aesthetics PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence INSPIRATION: This was inspired by the life style of Southern Song Dynastic. We have managed to figure out a way of reaching a balance between contemporary building and ancient design. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This villa is designed on the basis of the ideal style for ancient literati in the Southern Song Dynasty that creates a new eastern holiday lifestyle. The house is designed with the layouts progressively developed along the central baseline and with the classical craftsmanship of the Master of the Nets Garden in Suzhou, all of which displaying the sequential features of the ancient Chinese architectures in the contemporary house. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: It's worth mentioning that the wood walls are adorned by the old draftsmen specializing the Ming style furniture, whose craftsmanship of the customized woodworking joints superiorly brings out the traditional artistry of Suzhou style furniture. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The splendid entrance expanded inward the main outdoor area of villa, where is decorated with the crafty architectural elements and the elaborate ornaments. The lighting fixtures decorated along the courtyard figuratively resemble the flower petals. The wood rails consistently surrounding the courtyard are captivating. The blue cozy and fashionable garden chairs, as the daylight scattering through wood rails, signify the contrast of classical and contemporary elements. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The area of this case is 1300 square meters. TAGS: interior, space, residence, traditional, oriental RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This project was designed by myself, Haihua Zhang, and photographed by Yunpu Cai. I admire the living way of Southern Song Dynasty and the beauty of contemporary design. So, I present to you, Eastern Aesthetics. CHALLENGE: To blend the ancient style with the contemporary style in a harmony way was the most difficult part of this design. We cannot just simply put the things together. He won the Most Influential Architects and Designers of "AD" TOP100 in year 2019 and had his works published on many famous fashion magazines in China and abroad. He's been working on the design of international brand hotels and art space design, as well as the research and exploration of Chinese traditional architecuture spaces and landscape spaces for recent almost 20 years, and still won't stop. |
