| DESIGN NAME: Woods PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lighting INSPIRATION: The inspiration of this ceiling lamp as its name indicates, "Woods", is the remaining idea of the Forest. The nature lights and shadows are translated into a composition that deconstructs its natural display getting the closest possible to the reality with contrasting lights, shadows and forms. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This ceiling lamp is made in solid oak wood with a finishing that keeps the natural accent of the wood. This lamp comes from the ceiling and takes place into the space with six branches, each one with a different dimension and angle, achieving the closest proximity to its inspiration. This design gives us different sights from different angles, where the initial idea and inspiration of a forest gets translated into six graphic lines that support the lighting feature of this lamp, a single Led line with an electronic dimmer controlled with wireless technology. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The woods ceiling lamp is easily installed in any space. Due to its forms, composition and technical characteristics can be used in very different sceneries and adapted to the needs of the user or the different moods that we wish to set in a space. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The first drawings and sketches of this project are from the year 2013. The real scale prototype started in 2015 and the final piece ended in 2016 in Lisbon. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: After all the different artistic drawings which were the beginning of my inspiration to this piece, I used detailed sketches to start studying the technical aspects of this lamp, as well as the wished aesthetics. Then, I worked with a real scale prototype, in order to get a deeper understanding of all the challenges I would face to get the perfect balance among all the different lengths, angles and heights of the arms. I also worked with 3D representation. In the production we used CNC work, joinery and assembly by hand. The lamp is made in solid oak with natural varnish. The light feature is Led with a dimmable remote control. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 1538 mm x 1102 mm x 955 mm TAGS: wood ceiling lamp, portuguese lighting design, minimalism, light design, lamp RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research for this piece came naturally from my cultural, historical and personal background. I wanted to design and create a lamp able to transmit a feeling in the space, that plays with different angles and measures and yet maintains a minimalist language. I tried to bring into the interiors the idea and the sensation of the natural contrast of lights and shadows using for it single and clean lines of light which remind me a forest. CHALLENGE: The first challenge for this lamp was to produce all the components with the desired thickness studied by me. The next challenging aspects were two, first I had to get the perfect balance between the different measures, angles and proportions of the six arms and the whole body of the piece. The second point was to have the right and perfect light, that would give the lighting atmosphere wished for this lamp.
