The Reminder

Watch

INSPIRATION:
The inspiration to this time piece are the urgency for us all to make changes in our behavior on this planet. Case is in matte rusty finish, just as the dirty surface of the earth, underneath the rust there is gold; the fantastic planet we have and love! The crown shows the globe in gold. Only number visible on the clock is 11, this is to remind us about that we need to make changes in our behavior, now! as to say in The eleventh hour. On each side there are reminding words, one side showing bad things for the globe and on the other side shows the good things we receive when we make the needed changes for the environment

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Traditional watches are made with all details added on to the surfaces, we are laser cutting out the details in to the surfaces instead, the details are calculated in sizes to make the eye rested, there is only time and date on the watch, the surface in rusty rough color to make the feel visual as well, the cut-outs are in shiny gold to catch the eye, we changed the normal way of making the strap, all screws are on one side instead of traditional both sides.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Case is in matte rusty finish, just as the dirty surface of the earth, underneath the rust there is gold, laser cutting makes the gold visible under the rusty surface. The crown shows the globe in gold. Only number visible on the clock is 11, this is to remind us about that we need to make changes in our behavior, now, as to say in the eleventh hour, so that we are reminded of every new amazing day in life. On each side there are reminding words, one side showing bad things for the globe and on the other side shows the good things we receive when we make the needed changes for the environment.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The design of the project started July 2018 and the final product are ready aug 2019.

Solid 316 Stainless steel, PVD Plating Rust and 14K shiny Gold, PVD, Movement: Japan TMI VJ52B Quartz, Glass: Anti-reflectiv Sapphire glass with cyclops lens, Water resistant: 10ATM.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
During the many years in design business Kaj Ransvi has always been an environment fighter, the last years the problems with global warming and pollution have escalated around the globe, so to make a statement and to remind us all about the importance in changing our behavior he designed The Reminder, so the person who wears it reminds every day about using fewer things like energy, waste, petrol etc and also it is a conversation piece to start discussions where ever you meet people.

CHALLENGE:
Traditional watches are made with all details added on to the surfaces, we are laser cutting out all details in to the surfaces instead, to be able for the messaging words on the strap we needed to change the normal way of production to reverse the functions, all details are calculated in sizes to make the eye rested, the surface are in rusty rough color to make the feeling visual as well, this made the production complicated but well worth it and the cut-outs are in shiny gold to catch the eye, we have changed the normal way of making the strap, all screws are on one side instead of traditional both sides.
