| DESIGN NAME: Ryad PRIMARY FUNCTION: Private Garden INSPIRATION: Our main wager was recreating the owners' dream; Spanish citizens, with deep Hispanic roots which they do not want to forget, their aim was to enjoy the tranquility, the light, color and aromas typical to a Nazari garden. This lead us to think of a unique garden, creating a gorgeous compound, housing this delicate mixture between Hispanic and Muslim cultures, as a symbol of Peace among them. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: We turned this enormous 3000 square meters terrain into a nazari style garden, a space that communicates the peace and inspiration that our customers were searching. Our project involved the renovation of the swimming pool, the floorings and the entry side, as well as new painting for the facade and restyling with new ironwork and archways with fabric that produce an arabic atmosphere. We also did comprehensive work in gardening, watering and lightning. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Leaving aside the technical aspects of the work, we must emphasize that the whole complex is embedded by our literary narrative, a story in which the proprietors play an essential part, hence achieving the final goal of our work: that the estate and the project conform a lasting legacy. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2016 and for four months we were working in our studio. In july 2016 the production process begins and it last for twelve months. The project finished in July 2017. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We decided to design a classic cross-shaped pattern; this was repeated on the lighting structures (arabic light-beacons, hanging lamps and backlighted archways) that also appear in the bas-relieves placed on the forge retaining walls, adding a Classic Renaissance structure with a Nazari canal along it. Regarding the arboreal plant material, we used different species, such as holm, cypress, orange, pomegranate and palm trees, also bushes like lavender, thyme and jasmine, and finally, more flowery and grassy species like daisy, periwinkle and fresh mint. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 2.500 m2 Area TAGS: garden, landscape, design, symbolic, islamic RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We created a unique and natural ambience, using water as a guiding theme that brings serenity to the whole. We used water in laminar flows, having it slide through a small ditch leading to the pool. Same as in Alhambra, flowing water provides a soothing rumor, refreshes the air and, by the design of the ditches, draws lines with different perspectives that vertebrate the space and provide leaking paths and escape lines. We went for a mediterranean vegetation, with noble and classic trees like cypress, granate and orange trees, enhancing their poetic essence with bushes and aromatic plants. CHALLENGE: The pool was a basic element in this design. Our intention was to have it play the role of a pond, with stones placed all around and water cascading in laminar flows. This very flow will lead us to the upper area of the garden, where one finds new emerging springs and the arab light towers are placed. That is the point where our sight reachs to the sky and, by night fall, the stars can be seen, hence achieving the spiritual uplifting which is the main goal of this garden, never losing the focus on efficiency and sustainability: we reduced the need of maintenance and hydric consumption up to 40%.
