DESIGN NAME: The Big Book of Bullshit
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Book
INSPIRATION: Dishonesty is a ubiquitous phenomenon that has become ingrained as a necessity for the successful function of our society. The overarching aim of this project was to provide a contribution to the understanding of the visual relationship between lies and truth. Encouraging viewers to investigate their own preconceived notions of truth, trust and deceit by fostering a dialogue of a dialogue of questioning and examination.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Big Book of Bullshit is a graphic exploration of truth, trust and lies and is divided into 3 juxtaposed chapters.
The Truth: An illustrated essay on the psychology of deception
The Trust: A visual investigation of the notion and fragility of trust. Exploring experimental mediums and malleable, tensile materials.
The Lies: An illustrated gallery of bullshit, all derived from anonymous confessions of deception
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This was part of a larger project. Lies were collected from an anonymous online confessional platform iliekit.com and subsequently illustrated and showcased in the third 'lies' chapter of the big book of bullshit
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: project started in 2014 in Kuwait and completed in 2017 in the UK Edited and revised 2nd edition designed and produced in Singapore, 2019

To enjoy creating design that invokes curiosity, creates conversation, makes people smile and is above all, honest.

To contribute to a creative community, bound by the ubiquitous human trait of lying. Creating beautiful artwork from what is, essentially, an ugly aspect of human nature.
The central messages, which I wished to communicate: We All Lie
It is fundamentally ingrained in our nature and a necessary part of our societies structure.
Yet We Are All Quick To Judge
No matter how much we lie ourselves, there is a social paradox that forces us to negatively label those who are deemed liars.
CHALLENGE: There were many creative challenges which were overcome in the creation of this book, from ensuring the anonymity of confessions of deceit, to finding suppliers that could print using in glow in the dark ink.
The main finding of this practice based research is that, everyone is full of shit!
