DESIGN NAME: My Viet Specialty Coffee
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Coffee Packaging
INSPIRATION: My Viet’s product is made from the fresh coffee source from Buon Ma Thuot – where named by its most famous coffee plantation areas of Vietnam. This region is where the Ede (a Vietnamese minority ethnic) reside, images of Ede people harvesting on coffee hills have become familiar to not only Vietnamese but also international travelers. Inspired from that story, I’m creating formalised Ede girl hand harvesting together with the coffee tree pattern for the theme.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This designed is inspired from the image of Ede ethnic girl carrying plaited basket and hand harvesting to pick the most fresh and best flavor coffee beans. The formation of Ede girl in her
traditional ethnic costume brings out the specialty of the product which other brands cannot
have, meanwhile the image itself is also a famous Vietnamese coffee culture characteristic since
it’s specially-designed to be sold to travelers visiting Vietnam.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: While I had an idea and started to learn different illustration styles to find the most suitable style. Simple illustration style but still represents a traditional national costume. That helps the packaging to carry both traditional and modern look and feel.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2018 in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam and finished in March 2019 in Vietnam.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I do my research about the image of Ede people - ethnic minorities in Vietnam. Learn about how they live, dress and harvest their coffee. I learn on google and local websites. I also went on a field trip to Buon Ma Thuot and took some photographs of their daily lives.
I also do a research about other coffee colors and other coffee packaging on Pinterest and Behance.
CHALLENGE: The most difficult thing about doing this project is finding the right pattern of the Ede ethnic minority. Because in Vietnam, there are more than 50 different ethnic groups, each ethnic group has a unique costume but the texture is very close together. So I have to analyze a lot of data to find the correct pattern of Ede costumes.
