DESIGN NAME:
Vineyard Integration

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Ecoluxury tourist village

INSPIRATION:
"Some of the historical architectural theories are aware of the way in which our understanding is shaped by our contextual surrounding - by the conventions and traditions, the forms and structures that surround us and give shape to our local environments" (Frampton). Architecture can be regarded as an unbroken link to the natural world, rooted in a specific place, nature, and history.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The limitation of vineyard terrains encouraged us to find a bold combination of hospitality and viticulture. It is surprising how design interplays with this particular need, evoking a quasi-futuristic realm where technology meets sustainability to harness the power of nature. According to the scheme the hotel rooms, act as the main support for the vineyard holding system, which in turn represents an ideal base for installation of hail, insect, birds and rain protection nets or films.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The system of risen "triangles"; has allowed us to significantly increase the "sun surface" and in consequence, vineyard's productivity. We used approximately 20% of the land but, thanks to the system, we compensate the "loss" with increasing the harvest for more than 30%. Furthermore, the system allows to use any kind of protection nets; grow climbing vegetables, fruits, aromatic flowers; raise tree seedlings(taking advantage of the natural shade); dry and naturally perfume clothes. Due to the supporting functions, all the suites are required to be headed to one direction, but this drawback has been abundantly compensated: 1. Vines and correspondingly the suits are directed to the South and the River. 2. The Suites are fully isolated from from other one's and from the surrounding world - rooms are enclosed within the vineyards. Each room overlooks two triangular vineyard galleries and one open triangular corridor facing the sky. 3. The vineyard acts as a natural shield, which completely covers the suits from the sun rays in summer and lets the warmth of the winter sun penetrate through the glass walls. But the feeling of isolation completely vanishes when standing on the vast roof terrace, where a bird's eye view opens up. The terrace that is equipped with "rain pond" and original awnings represents a private lounge for sunbathing by day and star gazing at night. Creating thus, flexible design which allows to configure the sleeping and entertainment layout to suit your personal requirements. The awnings generate electrical energy and collect rainwater that could be used for bath and irrigation. While being a trivial possibility, the bathing experience has the potential to turn into an unforgettable experience. Covered by large green ram well, the low-rise constructions are completely integrated into the vineyard setting. Located along the rive, the suites are broken down in a series of rows through beautifully landscaped hillside, forming a kind of amphitheater adjacent to the river coastline. The retreat design leads to the riverside through a labyrinth of intimate outdoor spaces. The guests, making their way to suites instead of using elevators - take a kind of mini funicular, stylized for vintage cars and instead of corridors - go up the paths to their "glass" room, to find a private terrace, screened for the clear views across the vines to row after row and giving spectacular glimpses of snow-capped mountains. There are plenty of landscaped walking paths to share a lovely evening stroll along the riverbank, a kind of outdoor lobby, where the guests have the opportunity to interact with a variety of spatial elements and experiences; such as a wine-bar and restaurant, outdoor fireplace, billiard and cigar room, outdoor stage and swimming pool, fitness club, wine-based spa, mini conference room, kid playroom, reception and anther service facilities. There is even mini wine making factory, where the "rain pond"container is used as a kind of contemporary "Satsnakheli",a wooden trough, typically carved from a single piece of wood. When the wine is made according to the old Georgian tradition, whole bunches of grapes are run into a "Satsnakheli",where grapes are repeatedly trampled by barefoot participants to release their juices. Nowadays grape-treading or stomping is survives as a touristic or festive activity. Allocating the vineyard and winemaking facilities the retreat becomes a fully functional farm. Where the guests can take one step closer to nature and exploring the 8000 - years old culture of the winemaking, that enchants guests and visitors, especially during the harvest. Inside the glass walls, there can only be found king size bed and two angular lounge chairs. A very minimalist configuration, but without sacrifying high comfort and without the use of any signage andbeing so forward as to be intrusive. We have tried to not distract guests, but to leave them free to enjoy the masterpieces created by the nature. â€

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Even though much of what we have done remains hidden to the eye, our environmental commitments are reflected everywhere. Quasi-futuristic structures, with flowing forms, are equipped with modern technologies. The buildings are almost self-sustainable and run on solar, hydro and thermal power. They act like the little Alternative Energy Centers, where PCM-materials are installed into the floor and roof fabrics. Autonomous hotel rooms are powered by solar energy and come with on-site waste management systems. Awning Solar panels power all the electricity needs, including lighting, pumps, water filters, and a composting system. A filtration system safely returns greywater from the showers and sinks back to the earth, and the composting toilet handles black water. Rainwater collected in the "rain pond" (up to 5000l.) is used in bath and irrigation.
