| DESIGN NAME: Lalaboom Rainbow PRIMARY FUNCTION: Educational Toy INSPIRATION: Lalaboom arches are directly inpired from rainbow a universal and magical figure for children & parents. Lalaboom product involve organic pattern on beads. The main figure used is the circle / ball which represents the perfection and infinitym of possibilities. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Lalaboom rainbow arches is a step by step toy that allow sensory discoveries and gross moterskill stimulation while toddlers connected beads and arches together. WHen children grow up they realise that they can realise more sophisticated construction and the Raibow arch because a balance game where kids need to adjust the structure to find a solution and get satisfaction. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The idea came from a discussion and starting this point Fabien Fontaine took some time and advices from toy specialist in order to bring textures to the arches. On the technical field several meeting were necessary with Longshore engineer team to solve the combination of soft material, injection of a perfect half circle shape with a workable inner screwing system. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This is a 10 months project started in April in Germany and which has been finalized in Hong Kong in January FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Toys, Games and Hobby Products Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Both connection beads and arches are made with HDPE material which provide softness in touch and avoid skin scratches. The main challenge was to use a soft material to create a perfect half circle shape without distorsion and to add on it a screwing system which if any distorsion would not works. The inner structure has been design to bring strenght on the dtructure without reducing the aesthetic output. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Product size : 17 x 9 x 6 cm close. We choose a close box packaging to illustrate the numbers of construction possibilities that offers the product. TAGS: open play, rainbow, balance game RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To realize this project FAbien Fontaine study existing half circle shape made of plastic injection to understand and find out the most appropriated way to realize the product. Toy industry is impacted by retail price which must be reasonable, therefore the first appraoch based on 2 symetrical shapes to be glued together was drop and the final solution was chosen because more resonable in terms of retail price (19.99 euros). CHALLENGE: The hardest part was to be avle to insert the connections (female holes and female screwing system) inside the arches without decreasing the easthetic outlook of the product. After a try, the teamd decided to move the screwing system at the core of the arch and leave to surface flat.
