DESIGN NAME: Teawood
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Food and Beverage
INSPIRATION: As Teawood has branches in different parts in Hong Kong. Tsing Yi Teawood restaurant locates on the southwestern side of Hong Kong. The most special feature is the connection of five bridges. Thus, designers adapted the details of these into the interior space and created the endless sixth bridge of Tsing Yi as the theme.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Teawood is a story-telling restaurant with branches in different parts of Hong Kong. Each shop has its own design theme to reflect the characteristics of the location. This shop situates on Tsing Yi island in Hong Kong, surrounded by sea. With this in mind, designers created unique Tsing Yi Teawood restaurant.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: In order to facilitate smooth service process, designers carefully considered and arranged seats positions and the dimensions of corridors.
Kitchen is cannily put in the middle of the restaurant, for the sake of reducing food serving time.
Increasing interactions between guests and restaurant is another goal. Several sets of cake display cabinets are put in different directions around the main door. Guests could freely walk around and choose their favorite cake which differs from traditional display method.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in July 2018 in Hong Kong and finished in December in 2018 in Hong Kong.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The overall design is dominated by gray-blue and wood-colored, generating a feeling of being surrounded by the sea. The murals on the wall are the products of designers after visiting the Five Bridges, bringing the local features to the interior.
In order to make a bridge in a limited space, designers used mirror reflection to create an imaginary suspension bridge over the diners head. The V shaped screen seal becomes a pier in the mirror. The symmetrical ceiling design with rows of chandeliers hanging down look like neat and orderly streetlights in the mirror. The design balances reality and illusion, breaking the limits of space.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 2,270 square feet
TAGS: Endless bridge, elegant, bridge, Tsing Yi Island, bright, reflection
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research Objective is to study the constructions and features of bridges and mirror reflection effects.
In order to get more understandings of the mirror reflections, designers made many samples and models, hoped to display the themes with the best effect.
CHALLENGE: One of challenge are that the restaurant space area is limited. Thus, it is not easy to display big and broad bride. Designers made good use of mirror reflection, created a suspension bridge which extends to the ceiling.
In order to increase visual space, electrical and mechanical equipment are deliberately placed in two sides of the ceiling, making them visually as hidden as possible.
