DESIGN NAME: IgniStudio
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Jewelry Gallery Workshop
INSPIRATION: Being a space for jewel elaboration and design, the inspiration comes from gems and metals that proceed naturally in an irregular form. Abstracting its form, we could work with polygons and triangles that were reflected in the interior structure and furniture design to give the project a particular characteristic.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: With the intention of making the client be part of the jewelry creation, the project pretends to create a space where both activities are involved: show the jewelry elaboration process and exhibit the jewelry design as a piece of art. The main structure of the project is on its entrance, it envelops the area where the client and the artist talk about their ideas for the jewel, it is also the exhibition area. The Workshop area is located at the back limited by a pendant display.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Being located in a retail plaza in the center of Cumbaya, the project has a direct interaction with its context, its open façade exhibits the jewelry and calls the attention of people passing by. It is a place that people feel different because they can interact with the owner who made the jewelry.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in February 2018 and finished in August 2018. It is located in Coelho Praça in the center of Cumbaya Valley, Quito, Ecuador.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The envelope structure of the project is made of gypsum boards with a fine reflective finish, it is sustained by a galvanized steel structure and it conforms a small living room that at the same time works as a gallery. The private spaces like storage area and restroom are limited by wood wall coverings so that it is seen as a focal element on the project’s entrance, it establishes gallery and workshop areas. The workshop area has seen connections and wall outlets that impose an industrial design as well as the wood imperfections in the furniture to assimilate a workspace. Also, all the project floor is from polished concrete.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The project has approximately 40 square meters: 6.45 meters width, 5.97 meters depth and 3 meters height.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: An analysis was made to understand the necessities and requirements of a jewelry store where the spaces are only designed for exhibition. The fact that the jewel designer is also an architect, gave the product a special quality and allowed to create this unique and original space as a gallery workshop.
Polls were made to a hundred IGNIS clients about the characteristics of the jewel design process and the 85% mentioned that they were capable of buying the jewel just as an experience.
CHALLENGE: The main design challenge was working from the design to the construction because of the complex volumetry and geometry of the envelops. Also, to create an element to limit the workshop area where the space is semi private and the materials used can be flammable so the client cannot always touch the jewelry or enter this area with no protection.
