| DESIGN NAME: Swab Box PRIMARY FUNCTION: Easy-to-pick Swab Box INSPIRATION: When people open up a new package of cotton swabs, the first few swabs are always hard to pull out. While struggling to get one of them out, people may also touch other swabs around, which is insanitary but unavoidable. Therefore I want to design a box that can fix this small but bothering problem with just little adjustment. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This design concept aims to solve this problem that picking up the first few cotton swabs of a new package are really bothering. It has a deformable bottom made of silicone. So now people can push the bottom up with their finger and easily pick swabs out. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Simply push the bottom up with finger and the cotton swabs will come up from the top in different heights so that people can pick one of them out easily and without touching other swabs around. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in November 2018 in Guangzhou and finished in January 2019 in Beijing. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The bottom is made of silica gel, which can be deformed by finger. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 90mm*90mm*160mm TAGS: skin, package, material, swab box, easy to use RESEARCH ABSTRACT: First we proposed the problem from our own life experience. Then we did an online research. The research was to make sure if people also do think taking the first few swabs out from a new package is bothering and the answer is yes by 83.3%. Which means a design to change is necessary. CHALLENGE: While finding the problem isn't hard. But coming up with an idea on how to do modification in design to change it is hard. Finally we find our best way to not only solving the problem but with just little change to the original design as well.
