DESIGN NAME: Emaar One
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Digital and Mobile
INSPIRATION: The property owners and customers of Emaar, UAE's leading real estate developer were finding it challenging to manage the properties they own across various channels. The main challenge was that key tasks and features were available partially on digital and offline processes as well as functionalities being spread across multiple apps. We designed Emaar One, an app that consolidated all processes and functionalities into a one-stop digital package that made managing properties a breeze. The team strategised together and implemented the service design thinking across departments to align the outcomes for the end customer by closely working with all stakeholders.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The strategic design thinking and process re-alignment allowed the entire offline process to be implemented into 1 single mobile app. A total transformation for the company and the customer.
Emaar One is a personalised property management app that lets owners take control of their property with features like raising service requests through voice, monitoring real-time construction progress, document cloud, and seamless payments. It's the go-to app for property owners that lets them forget the worries of owning a property and allows them to immerse themselves in the experiences Emaar provides.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: We adopted a top-down approach with information flowing downwards from the properties a user owns. 3 major use cases were identified based on the stage of a property - under construction, handover and ready to move in. We prototyped multiple iterations to perfect a modular card design system - each card provided different information while being part of the same family. We created illustrations & interactions using colours and characters common in the UAE to maintain familiarity amongst users.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project duration was about 6 months spanning across teams in Dubai & Bangalore.
The application is under beta launch for select customers since Feb 2019.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We undertook extensive primary & secondary research in UAE and came up with strategic insights. One of them was voice notes being the rising mode of communication, so we introduced raising a service request using voice. We conducted multiple discovery workshops with stakeholders at Emaar to fully understand the online & offline processes in place. We discovered new challenges - right from login to property handover - and reduced the complexity to build flows that are delightful and intuitive.
CHALLENGE: We had to approach this project from a unique perspective since the target audience for Emaar One was a very wealthy group of individuals who have extremely busy schedules and are used to premium offerings. We had to align the experience of the app, to the offline experience which Emaar provides. We needed to make the flows extremely fast and seamless, while maintaining its premium feel. The biggest challenge was to consolidate all the features scattered across multiple apps and make a coherent user experience out of it. The clients VISION was a great north star for the entire team to rally behind.
