DESIGN NAME: Peyto
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Side Table
INSPIRATION: Designing aside table to upgrade lightness and portability was the challenge. the features used in designing this product are promoted to a table inside (not only beside) the furniture. Such an idea required a unique design for the transfer of forces to the ground. A design that adds to the beauty of the product while addressing the static need and at first glance the audience's mind: Is this table standing?
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Peyto is a side table that, in addition to the usual features of this category, has a beautifully decorated appearance that differs in shape and statics. The lightness, in completing the concave form, allows the user to drag the table into his or her space so that it can be used from the surface to fit different containers. The user is given more comfortability and the desk is as close as possible to him or her. This mode occupies less space because the Peyto has a connection to the sofa.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The motivation behind this project had been questioning the influence that furniture design can have on the quality of people's lives and their interactions. In order to be able to promote an attractive link between technology and quality of life, traditional materials (e.g. wood) were employed to achieve a united format.
Ability to move and synchronize with various furniture is the main aspect of the low weight of the Peyto. Also, the wooden material in combination with fluid form, Makes warm environment.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in February 2017 and finished in December 2017 in Mashhad, and was exhibited in Choobsang showroom in January 2018 .

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This table has been designed in the Rhino software and the Grasshopper plugin whit ergonomic topics, to be useful for the user in the sitting position and pulling it to him / herself.
Because of more ability in fluid forms and light weight, The pine wood have been chosen to be the basic material. 5 axis CNC machine cuts the Pine wood to achieve the form. And for more Inner strength the same CNC machine makes a hole through the body of Peyto. This hole filled with the inner Pine wood structure.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Peyto in-side table is made by two 560mm*365mm ellipses which are parallel in space. Because of more flexibility, there are two different heights. 350mm for shorten benches and 480mm for the ordinary ones.
For safe transportation, Peyto will pack in a plywood box with 8mm thickness.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: According to researches an interviews with our customers, it has been detected that they prefer "low weight" and "more flexibility" for a side table, which is considered as our approach in this design. Researches around the ergonomic forms and ability to make shapes with wooden objects whit the 5 axis CNC machine, was the primary researches which lead us to using Pine instead of Beech wood. Studying on statics of ergonomic shapes was also one of the important researches field during design and fabrication process of the Peyto
CHALLENGE: Several ways of design and analysis in software and lots of tests on 1:1 model, leaded the design to the final stability as the main challenge. The limit of time and sharp angles were two other challenges, according to the fabrication machine limits. For this, Peyto divided into two stocks.
considering the time and efficiency of the fabrication process, each stock contoured into several pieces, connected and shaped by 5 axis CNC machine.
Reduction of operational hazards, Decreasing the process time and achieving the desired design, are the advantages of this fabrication process.
