DESIGN NAME: Haze Stool
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Stool
INSPIRATION: Many designs leave a clear distinction between the transparent and the reflective, but with this stool, we used gradation to blur this distinction and create something that was at once novel and inspiring.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A gradient glass stool that transitions from clear to mirrored (electroless plated) glass. The gradient begins halfway up the stool, blurring the boundary between the inside and outside and leaving the viewer curiously mystified. This beautiful and enthralling product is sure to leave a lasting impression.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Haze can be used as a stool, side table, or unique objet. The viewer are sure to have mystify experience because this stool has marvelous gradation, blurring the boundary between the inside and outside.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2017 in TOKYO, and was exhibited in Designart TOKYO in 2017.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The materials are clear glass and we use the technical paint, "Electroless plating paint". It is quite different the usual method for creating the mirror. The technique of Electroless plating paint generate silver in a chemical reaction. We succeed to transform clear into mirrored glass by having control the time of chemical reaction.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 280mm x 280mm x 450mm/clear glass 10mm
TAGS: glass, mirror, gradation, stool, furniture
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We wanted make the beautiful products between design and art.
And we decided to use the technologies for creating gradations from mirrored to transparent remain imperfect, "Electroless plating paint".
We could demonstrate the possibility of Electroless plating paint and this product also serves as an innovative new idea full of potential for construction-scale design.
CHALLENGE: The technologies for creating gradations from mirrored to transparent remain imperfect. Going forward, we must improve the electroless plating process and work on creating pieces in larger dimensions, but we believe this work could transform the design world in a major way.
