| DESIGN NAME: Isiqu, the hybrid sofa PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sofa INSPIRATION: Isiqu represents a childhood memory, passed in South Africa. It is a big animal at the edge of the water, covered with reflections. His slow and silent movements and his dark and reassured skin is adorned with textured details. His size and his elegance gave me the impression that he was there to protect others. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Isiqu spreads in space and makes you feel good. This hybrid sofa allows the user to work, sit comfortably, alone or with others, surrounded by materials and shapes that give free rein to his imagination. Its knit and hand-made covers highlight this soft and strong object. A structure that proposes and doesn't stuck the object in a specific use. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Your can work, sleep, read or chat on Isiqu. Simple assembly : nesting and recovery. Made in France and hand made ! Lightweight to carry. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The researchs started in March 2018 in Saint-Etienne and the sofa was created in June 2018 in Saint-Etienne. It was exhibited in Paris for the Paris Design Week in September 2018 and in Saint-Etienne for the International Biennal of Design of Saint-Etienne in March and April 2019. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Made in France with local manufacturers. Hand made wool knit and hand made fabric cover. Steel structure made by a metal worker in St-Etienne and thermo lacquered. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 1500mm x Depth 3500mm x Height 1200mm TAGS: comfort, hand made, hybrid sofa, knit, steel, fabric design, furniture design, souvenirs, poetry, softness RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Created as part of my degree. Objective of the research: to materialize memories. Creative process: poem writing inspired by my memories. Drawings from the poems then research for a function to link to the them and create an object. Objective: to evoke, through the object, my memories in a subtle way so that everyone can appropriate it with emotion. Tests done in an instinctive way. Exposed in different places to confirm comfort and discover the different types of use. CHALLENGE: Creation of a thin metal structure of appearance but stable! Creation of knitting by hand to make knitting lovers work. Other difficulties encountered: make an effective object from memories fuzzy and distorted over time. Find ways to link comfort to sitting down at ground level. NAME: Lila Demarcq PROFILE: Lila Demarcq joined in 2013 the School of Art and Design of Saint-Etienne. Inspired by her childhood in South Africa, she creates a series of materializing structures. With her objects, Lila Demarcq seeks today to materialize strong moments in a subtle and poetic way to be able to appropriate them with emotion. It is the work of multiple materials as well as his desire to link art and design in an obvious way, which allows her to create without limit and thus give free rein to his imagination. |
